What on earth happened to Colorado?  I mentioned that they wouldn't be ranked as high at the beginning of the season, but this is ridiculous.  Here's a neat tidbit:  both these teams played Colorado State.  Both allowed 19 (?) points.  UCLA won, Colorado lost.  Since this is college football, though, nothing sane will happen.  I don't trust Colorado to be as bad as they are.  I can't ignore their performance, though, so I gotta pick (against everything I consider holy) UCLA

oooh!  good game!  running game against....who care.  Pac 10 sux!  Chris Brown will cally the ball 12 times for like 130 yards and lead the buffs to a sick win over UCLA....terrible team!   Good luck UCLA doing ... well...anything against colorado!

Woe are the Buffs.  What is wrong here?  Everything but the running game.  UCLA's athletic D will do everything they can to stuff Chris Brown and Co., and we know Craig Ochs has nothing.  Looks like another L.A. school over a Big 12 power.  This is gettin' ugly

N.C. State (17), (16) at Texas Tech (40), (U) (Phil's Pick)
Final Score: N.C. State, 51-48

Phillip Rivers is slowly introducing himself to the Heisman list.  I really think N.C. State is a great team.  I'm not sure how their run defense is, but everything else seems sound.  That linebacker...pretty good.  That Holt....pretty good.  That quarterback may be the best out of all three though.  I've never been as frustrated as last year's Maryland-N.C. State game, when Rivers straight picked us apart.  I've read that Tech's spread offense is becoming obsolete, but I'm not sure the ACC has seen enough of it to know how to stop it.  If this had been an identical team in, say, the Big XII, I'd pick State by a lot.  Klingsbury could give them the shits though, so I pick a relatively close game.

G: N.C. State, 27-20

TT will rip the spot and NCSU will rip it even harder.  ACC will win this in the end no doubt.  Philip Rivers is one of the best passers in the East and NCSU has one of the best secondaries in the ACC.  They just have to prove it this weekend against Kliff Kingsbury.  The front seven of TT has to stop the run!  but this week they may have to focus on stopping the total package of NCSU.

Phil: N.C. State, 35-27

If NC State loses here, the ACC will look very bad.  After all, they're probably the second best team in the conference.  Texas Tech certainly isn't the second best team in the Big 12, even if it is overrated.  The Red Raiders are at home, but I don't think they have the D to get the W.

This may be a foolish pick.  Michigan State hasn't even played anyone.  The only candidate, Cal, whomped them right nicely.  I'm just not sold on Notre Dame yet though.  They do have an unfair advantage in that kicker, and their D is pretty good, but I don't think it'll be enough.  Look for Charles Rogers to have a good night.  Notre Dame seems to have great team defense, but I don't think they have any individual player good enough to stop Rogers.  They'll be in zone, and in zone, there are always guys open as long as you look at the right time.  I think Smoker can buy enough time for the zones to break down on a couple plays.

MSU showed what they could do this year....against EMU and Rice and Cal....yah, be a mediocre team.  Well they put up 600_ yards against EMu and ripped them a new asshole, but rice almost whopped them, and ...well...Cal did!  Now they have ND @ home...a matchu that shouldn't even be happening, and this will be a chance for MSU to show the world that come Nov. 2nd, there will be a reason to still be alive in the state of Michigan.  We all know that their season is heading to the shitter and ND is going to help flushit for em.  All of a sudden carlysle will ll turn into michael vick.

The Irish have lost five in a row to the Spartans, but things could be different this time around.  Notre Dame beat Michigan last week.  Michigan State?  They got killed.  By the California Golden Bears.  At home.  So much for homefield advantage.  That makes two games in a row that the Spartans at least struggled with an inferior team (Rice the week before).  Notre Dame RB Ryan Grant is actually looking pretty good, and the D and special teams continue to be rock solid.  If the Irish can get by this game with a W, who knows what the future will hold...wake up the echoes
