Lesson Plans

This page contains lesson plans that involve the use of visualization tools. Some plans were developed by team members, and others were found on the web but have been modified for use in our classrooms. For technical assistance (tutorials), please visit our Resources page. If you have a lesson plan involving visualization of data that you would like to share, please submit it! We will be happy to post it and credit you for your work.

Plans:

Graphing Density is geared for high school students. Students collect density data in lab and use Microsoft Excel to analyze the data and determine the density using linear regression. You may also download the lab handout and a sample spreadsheet. If you or your students need help, you may access an Excel tutorial.
Exploring Slope-Intercept Form uses an interactive website to capture the attention of students.
Tantalizing Triangles explores possible side lengths of triangles. There is also a downloadable worksheet for this activity.
Heating and Cooling Curves is a lab activity in which students construct a heating and cooling curve for water using Excel. A sample graph is also available.
How Does That Pop You? compares population data from counties in NC and IL. A student handout is available, as well as the data from NC and IL.
