Reflection -Standard VIII

Learning Beliefs

Leadership and vision are part of the job of the school librarian. The media specialist shares in the continual growth of technology and fosters an environment and culture that is conducive to that vision. Locating and dissmeminating current research is the primary goal of the media specialist. The vision and leadership role continues as librarians maintain, purchase, and upgrade technology for the school environment. Vision for the district is through media specialists collaborating about the technology plan, and examining the technology needs of a the faculty.

Media specialist are part of the leadership and vision in a school district. They assist in creating and implemting staff development. Staff development provides school partnerships to be formed and an evalutaion of technology needs in the school environment. Also they create bonds between student, staff, administration, and community.

Artifact I shows locating and disseminating current research in educational technology which is part of standard VIII. Providing current online databases is part of the vision for a media center. Artifact I is the webpage for the Nutley school district where such sources can be accessed. Another example of locating and disseminating information is Artifact II. Artifact II is United Streaming. Nutley School District subcribes to United Streaming where the media specialist demonstrates the benefits of this resource.
