Adenosine A2A receptor agonists are of potential therapeutic use, especially in diseases involving inflammatory processes. It has been known for some time that 2-(2-arylethylamino)-adenosines often show high affinity and selectivity towards adenosine A2A receptors.

Starting from these lead structures a synthesis involving 2-iodoadensosine as a key substance was developed and a set of approx. 30 substances was synthesised.

Although no synthetic or pharmacologic data of these substances has been published yet, they have been used in several studies like:

J. Iqbal, J. Burbiel, C.E. Müller, “Development of off-line and on-line capillary electrophoresis methods for the screening and characterization of adenosine kinase inhibitors and substrates”, Electrophoresis 27 (12), 2505-2517 (2006)
