I think of this as a vase, although it does remain unnamed.  The symmetric quality was achieved by folding the paper top to bottom and using carbon paper to duplicate the right half of the design on the back of the paper.  Because the duplicate lines showed through, I was able to retrace the design back to the front left half of the paper.
