African School Fund:

The African School Fund is a pool of resources that will enable us to provide immediate needs to a school or classroom. Your gift will go towards needed supplies, books, desks, chairs, and in some cases, renovations or new construction. Your gift to this fund will have a direct impact on the education offered by the particular community JAF is working with at the time.

You can be certain that your funds are being well-spent because purchases and disbursements in most cases are made on-site during a visit from a JAF team of students and educators. Within a few days of a returning trip, you can visit the website and see photographs of the visiting JAF team working with African teachers and students to help them provide the best level of education they can.

Heres how it works:

First, Jim identifies a school that is willing to partner with JAF. The teachers and administrators must play an active role if we are to bring groups and resources to their school. Our goal is to empower the community to serve itself so it is important that our work be collaborative. We assess their strengths and weaknesses and hear what they consider their greatest needs.

Second, a visiting team made up of students and educators visits this school and over the length of their stay helps meet those needs whether they are supplies, equipment, renovations or perhaps even training.

Finally, after the team returns home, stories and photos are posted on the website for you to see how your dollars were spent and learn about the community that was helped!

Our Current Projects:

The Jim Arden Foundation partners on the ground in Tanzania with World Vision Tanzania, a member office of the World Vision International Partnership. During a visit, JAF identified four schools within their Kingori Area Development Program (ADP) to serve, Maroroni, Samaria, Majengo and Malula Primary Schools. They are located in the Arumeru District of the Arusha Region. This particular ADP covers 25 villages with a total population of 78,000 people. The project is located 35 kilometers from Arusha proper and World Vision Tanzania has been working there for four years. In order to upgrade these four schools to achieve quality standards set by the Tanzanian Ministry of Education, goals were set for construction of school buildings, provision of furniture and a supply of books. Many rural schools have a difficult time attracting and retaining qualified teachers because of a lack of adequate housing. Part of our plan includes the construction of forty faculty homes.

Here are a few of the schools we are working with in Tanzania and their immediate needs:
