And so it begins, the longest day, which lasted about 48 hours. I awoke Sunday morning to the sound of sleet hitting my window. I went to breakfast, at 1, and then proceded to check the sidewalks on campus. Half an hour later, my face is frozen, but the sidewalks are not. Prognosis: School tomorrow. I see Art, and he says we'll probably get together and play stuff tonight. Environmental Science reading. I go to dinner at about 5. I see Kenneth and Jeremy, recently arrived from their romantic weekend getaway, I mean trip to Kenneth's house. They say they'll eat around 6 with everyone else. I go in and eat with Andrew and his friends. I leave at 5:45, because the conversation has gone in a direction I don't want to go. I see Chris is working desk. He gets off at 6. Jeremy and Kenneth come down to the lobby and show me their pictures. Then, I agree to go eat with them. I sat at the center of the table, because I like being at the center of the universe. Plus, I had already eaten and did not need to stand in those long lines, since everybody was in the cafe since there wasn't anywhere else to be. Game night. We start off with Texas Hold 'em. Anne wins consistently in her first game ever. I hate poker. We get enough people for two tables. Our table decides to switch to Capitalism once Nick leaves. Enter Jared being stupid, slamming cards on the table and breaking them. Meanwhile, the poker table is down to a one on one bout between Aaron Russell and Mike. Kenneth has his PS2, since he took it home with him, and sets up his EyeToy on the TV in the lobby. So random people are playing with the EyeToy the entire night, adding entertainment for everyone. Jeremy, Kenneth, and Jen leave to get Cranium from the Nance, but don't come back for a long time. By the time Art, Mere, and I were ready to go look for them, we see them walking back. Lord of the Rings Risk, Good, Charles and Chasen, versus Evil, Art and Jared. Evil crushes Good rather handily. Meanwhile, I get used as a prop in the Cranium game, and Kat goes and plays Monopoly against David, Donovan, and Blake, spouting off Winston Churchill: "I will never surrender! I will defend my properties to the very end!" At 11:30ish, I decide to go play in the sleet, and I gather a group of followers. The hill on Peabody was pretty much used up. But we did slide down the sidewalk down to the volleyball court, the hill behind the backstop, and the hill going down towards the volleyball court on the side of Culp. David, Mike, and Russell were the ones brave/stupid enough to try to slide down and go off the brick retaining wall by the backstop. That was a good 3 or 4 foot drop right there. We were using flattened cardboard boxes to slide down. I tried surfing down twice, the first time I did pretty good, the second time I got to roll down most of the hill. Then I just went into bellysliding penguin mode, both forwards and backwards. Art and Kat show up later. Kat tries to bodycheck me while we are all skating in the middle of the street. I see this as a challenge, and you never challenge and enforcer to body check you. This is after she tried to push me over, which result in a push back that almost sent her down the hill at Peabody. "Hey, she started it." We get back to Richardson about 1:30 or 2. We play with the EyeToy a while longer, and then everyone pretty much leaves. I watch Ponds and Kenneth play Ghost Recon for a while, then the three of us retreat to Ponds' room for a Single Guys Club meeting. I finally left there about 5 and went straight to bed. I got up at 12:45, knowing that basketball had been arranged to be played at 2. We had about 20 people show up to play. And it was pretty cold in those gyms. We played some pretty competitive games. There is no way we should have lost our first game. I was just a little peeved at our collapse. We were winning rather handily in our second game. Then, Mike does a spin move on me, runs into Brittany who was trying to cut behind me, who neither me nor Mike saw, who smacked heads with Anne, leading to a cut over Anne's eyebrow. But she didn't realize how bad it was until I told her she was bleeding. The game pretty much breaks up right here, as Anne is escorted by two guys to Crawford, which was closed, then to Campus Police. Brittany and I meet up with her there, and Brittany goes with Anne to the hospital with Campus Police. Meanwhile, Art and Kat are supposed to be in the cafe, but had yet to return from Walmart. Apparently, I over reacted to all of this, being "spaced out at dinner" as Jenkinson pointed out. "I'm not worried, I'm concerned. I wouldn't be able to sit still if I was actually worried." Yeah, I'm a worrier, I'll admit it. It would have been better if I had actually heard from them. Kenneth finally got a hold of Anne and found out they had been waiting in the emergency room. If it wasn't life threatening..... More poker in the lobby. Then a surprise party for David's roomate in Charles and Chasen's room. Most of the frisbee team was there. Then came the comment I made implying Kat was fat. "I never said that. I implied it but I never said it. Dukes of Hazard ice scraping, yeah, you work it Kat. Enter the longest game of Numble ever played. This is what I get for playing with an art and english major. Then we played capitalism with a scoring system. Then we changed the scoring system. Then I got to run the numbers on the collected data applying different scoring systems while they played poker yet again. Then, Art and I walked Kat back to Nance. I had a little trouble getting up the hill, forcing me to crawl. Then, by Sims, Kat wiped out and fell on some tree routes, but in the process took out Art's legs, causing him to fall as well. Yes, it was pretty funny to watch. The rest of the night went off without incident. |

Now to the third 24 hour block of Sunday. Today, we got chased around by Campus Police while trying to skate on campus. The first incident was on the steps of Byrnes. We were asked if we had our insurance cards, because if he had to come back and scrape one of us off the ice he wanted the person to be insured. Translation: When one of you stupid kids falls and hurts him/herself, don't call us. And then we left and went to Dinkins and skated around the parking lot there. "If I fall, it won't be accidental." Flop. Flop. Not once but twice, stupid tree roots. And Campus Police rolled up again. I thought about telling them to go talk to the garbage mean that we're sliding on their bellies up the road, saying they were a bad influence, but we just started walking away. We then hit the fountain and Tillman, and finally the courtyard of Breazealle, conveniently concealed from meddling police officers eyes. I have had more semi-run ins with the cops this semester than the rest of my life. At 4 Benson, Kat, Art, and I hit up Target and then Citgo. We had to use the $1 lottery ticket Chasen gave us. First card we take turns scratching off, and after 5 minutes we win $1. Art re-enters and gets another one. This time we lost, but it was super exciting for 10 minutes. And then there was dinner, where Kenneth displayed the pictures from the last day or so. We were in the cafe a long time before they finally decided to watch a movie in the Richardson lobby. I had to study, yay being a real student! Then the class got cancelled. I returned to the lobby, talked to Art. He dropped by to play some cards later on. It was very reminicent of Spring semester last year. Ahh, the memories. |
