Spring Semester 2004
So yeah, about that whole running around on campus thing from yesterday, we were actually sneaking around campus, comando like. I was the lookout, the other three were dressed for sneaking around, Ponds in a black trenchcoat, Russell and Kenneth in black shirts and pants and masks. Except for the fact that we were spotted by someone and they called campus police about "three black guys" creeping about. I'm trying to figure out where they went and hid after retreating from a pedestrian. Next thing I know, there is a cop coming around the corner. I went casual and continued walking towards him. In the two seconds it took us to pass each other, I had figured out the entire story I was going to tell him when he stopped me and asked me what was going on. I was going to tell the truth and nothing but the truth. But, all he did was say hello, and I replied similarly. I keep walking, turn around and see a flashlight scanning the tennis courts, where I know the other guys are hidding. Three seconds later, the lights for the tennis courts come on. I, being the recon guy, disappeared like I was supposed to, Mission:Impossible style. As, I'm completing my big circular walk back to the car, Kenneth calls me up and says the got out of it somehow. For the goings on inside the tennis courts, I leave that story to Aaron Russell. I decided we should blame it on the girls for not giving us something to do, making us become bored and leading to us deciding to do something really stupid.
Monday: Today, I played basketball with Kenneth, Brittany, and David. It was fun, and I do miss playing it sometimes. Then, we were supposed to go to the apartment so Kenneth could cook us quesadillas and we could all watch a movie. While I'm retreiving Benson from his room, I tell him about the Single Guys Club, and he says, with his girlfriend sitting right there, "I'd like to be in that group." We all know he meant he would like to hang out with those particular guys, but we all also interpreted it the other way as him saying he wanted to be single. I won't let him live that one down. His response to me has always been: "Would you like the situations to be reversed, where I'm the single one, and you're the one in the relationship and on the leash?" And I always answer: "In a heartbeat." Desperate, no, I not desperate. So yeah, we go over to the apartment, and I finally return the Snowman, who has been living like a hobo in the back of my car since the beginning of the semester. She really enjoyed his souveniers. Later, that guy showed up, what's his name, oh yeah, Art. It was fun hanging out with everyone, and the food was excellent. $3 very well spent. So, Art, Kat, Benson, and I leave early so Art can hang out with his Bible study guys. As we pull into the university, we notice there are cones blocking the road in front of Bancroft. Art decides to pull through the cones to get to Nance. While we are stopped to let Kat out, we notice that there is a cop in front of Tillman. So, we pull through the cones on the other side of Nance, and try to exit through the circle. The cop starts up, comes out, and pulls us over. He then explains to Art as condecendingly as possible the legal meaning of traffic cones. I am just cringing in the backseat, as this is my second close encounter with the authorities in about 20 hours. He lets us go without anything written, and the rest of the night was uneventful, thankfully.

Thursday Night: Most of the single guys went over to the Roasting Co. to try to study. What ended up happening was I tried my best to distract Jeremy and Kenneth from their readings through thoughtful/less conversation, thereby keeping myself from reading as well. I was, needless to say, very effective. Yeah, how about those meandering conversations. And what about being chased around the parking lot? The battle rages on.
Friday: Played basketball with Pierre and David. Pierre still sucks, not that that is surprising. First frisbee practice at the lake. Hey, there is a breeze coming off the lake, that might have some effect on the frisbee. An hour later we have score like 5 points combined. Walt gets run over by Anne. Charlie plays until Meredith shows up. I'm gimpy and bleeding. Our team was a mess. And then there was ice skating with Campus Crusade. Quite fun. Always nice to see black guys try to ice skate. And I stole Pierre's massage, after I taunted him the whole time he was on the ice. Back to Richardson. I run into Art, give him the medication he desired for Kat, followed him down to the lobby, and continued to sit around with Art and Kat for a while until we went over to the apartment. A stop and Taco Bell later, we're there mingling. Coookieees.
Saturday: The frisbee location debacle. Watching the Fear project. Art, Jared, and Aaron all connect to the same scene. A trip for Jared and Art to Dunkin Donuts, which avoided relationship conversations for the most part, a plus for Jared. I get back to my room, and Phil says that Benson was looking for me. I walk down to Benson's room, and there is a not so good phone conversation going on. Jared chills with Benson in his room, guess what they talk about? You got it, relationships. It was for the best though, Benson is going through a tough time in his right now. We go over to Wofford to hang out with Aaron Russell, Mike, and Brian. More meandering conversation, more talk of girls, but from a different perspective from all of the rest. Benson and I leave and go back to his room to watch some Family Guy. At 4, we decide that it is time to go to bed.

Addenda to yesterday. In my tiredness/laziness in writing the description of the weekend, I forgot that Mani broke a blood vessel in his finger on Friday, adding to the gimpyness of our team. And on Saturday while trying to stretch after frisbee, Kat tries to push me over, right up until the point where I took her legs out from under her. Perfect takedown. And so it begins, the longest weekend ever.
