SupeRock Night at PNC Park
May 19th Pirate Game Proves 'We Are Family'
Bentz and M.O.T.S. hosted a plethora of fans for "SupeRock Night" at PNC Park, coinciding with the "Willie Stargell Replica Statue" give-away by the Buccos. The Saturday game was sold out, and starter Jimmy Anderson spurred the Pirates on to a suprising 6-1 win against the Milwaukee Brewers. The 25-year-old Anderson's shut-out was only spoiled by closer Mike Williams giving up a solo homer to Brewer Jeromy Burnitz at the start of the ninth.
"Anderson was outstanding," Pirates manager Lloyd McClendon said. "I talked with Anderson two days ago, told him if he gave me eight shutout innings we'll take care of the rest. Tonight, we were able to get it for him."
Left-fielder Brian Giles scored twice for the Bucs, had three hits, and broke open the 1-0 game with two runs in the fourth and fifth innings. "I was impressed with the Pirates' performance tonight," M.O.T.S. commented, "and watched as much of the game as I could. It was tough with a sold-out Park, having to host 'SupeRock Night,' and all the appearances that Bentz I had to make around the field."
M.O.T.S. also made an appearance with pitcher Jimmy Anderson earlier that morning at a local Giant Eagle.
"He signed my balls," M.O.T.S. joked. "Both of them! And I made sure one said 'To Randy' on it!" Of course, M.O.T.S. was talking about a souvenir BASEBALL that Anderson autographed.
"What a great night for WRCK/WRLL!" Bentz said in a later interview. "It may have taken me and M.O.T.S. 25 years to get to a game, but we did it in style and in the crown jewel of all baseball parks--PNC PARK IN PITTSBURGH!...I can't wait for 'SupeRock Night 2!' THE BUCS ROCK DA BURGH!!!"
And it was truly a night of "Family," as M.O.T.S.'s sister Lise and Bentz's brother Don joined the SupeRock crew, to celebrate the special night in Pittsburgh. (Of course, the only damper was the Penguins crushing loss to the NJ Devils at the Arena earlier that day -- but it wasn't enough to ruin the fantastic night at the new ball park!)
Sorry you missed the fun? Well, don't miss out when WRCK/WRLL, along with the Pirates, host "SupeRock Night II" on Saturday, September 8th, 2001 -- as the Buccaneers face the Cincinatti Reds at beautiful PNC Park. It's also "Roberto Clemente Bobbing Head Doll Night," which every fan attending the game will receive. ("I hope it doesn't suck as bad as the Willie Stargell 'statue,' which really wasn't a statue!!!!" M.O.T.S. lamented. Bentz pointed out the picture of the bobble to M.O.T.S., and they both agreed it oughta be kewl!) You can catch them at the official Pirates web site.
