Light The Night© Walk

During this M.O.T.S. Month of August 2000, we are proud to announce that our own Man-On-The-Street, Michael Brown, has volunteered to organize a team of walkers for the Leukemia Society's annual "Light The Night© Walk."
The event occurred on Sunday night, September 24,2000, at the Douglass Campus of Rutgers University, in New Brunswick, NJ.

The "Light The Night© Walk" is the Society's nationwide evening walk to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer. The event's mission is to raise funds to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma-- and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
   A parade of flickering
red and white balloons wound 1-1/2 miles through the campus, creating a breathtaking sight and spirit of fellowship among all who carried them. Participants like M.O.T.S. carried red balloons; cancer survivors carried white balloons.
Thanks to all who donated to the "
Light The Night© Walk. Your contributions were greatly appreciated and will help make a difference in the lives of the 600,000 individuals presently living with these blood-related cancers. Our goal was to raise at least $150 each, and we came darn close--Our team raised a total of $682.35! The event's goal was to realize over $10 million this year. Let's hope they made it!
Whether or not you contributed, say a little prayer for all of the folks with these diseases.

OTHER NOTES:

  • Leukemia causes more deaths in children than any other disease in the country.
  • Donations will help create and support assistance programs for patients and their families.
  • The Society raises funds to enable leading researchers to investigate causes, treatments, and cures.
  • Donations for the Walk were due from us to the Society by September 10, 2000. By the night of the Walk on Sept. 24th, our team had collected $682.35, including extra donations received just before the event. And we also had a last-minute addition to our team, Karen, who helped make the event that much more fun.

And thanks to all the fans, just for being here!
All my best,
  M.O.T.S.
