Kirina's Story

About Me, Kirina

If you are reading this record, you have chosen my life's story.

As the title says, this is Kirina's story. Nothing fancy, just my life's experiences.

I was born in Ista Weyr. My mother rode a green and my father, a brown. Because they were both dragonriders and busy fighting thread, I was really raised by the headwoman, Jeri. When I was 12, the weyrwoman asked me to help her re-copy some of the old hides that had started to fade and I was glad to help. It just started a fever in me to write. I love to copy, or create an original piece of work.

At the age of 24 turns, I came to this weyr to help out in the records room. The old uncle that had been responsible for the records became too ill to do it.

I hesitated at first to leave Ista, but I was thirsty for new experiences and so I left.

I have been in this Weyr now for half a turn and have learned so much that hasn't yet been written, I can't help but write these new stories along with my work of recopying.

Oh, yes, I guess I should write something about what I look like. I just completed my twenty-fifth turn. I'm tall for a girl, and I have big toes. My eyes are blue. My hair is fire red and long just past my shoulders. I broke my nose when I was 6 chasing the other kids. I fell down some stairs and got a bloody nose. It didn't heal perfectly, so my nose has a little kink in it. Nothing bad and no-one notices but me. I also bite my fingernails. I have been trying to stop, but when I write, I just have this nervous habit of chewing on them.

Well, that's it for now. I have work to catch up on.

A Pleasant Surprize and a New Responsibility

The most glorious thing happened to me today! As I was eating breakfast in the main hall, a blue rider came in with a sack full of fire lizard eggs. He was quickly followed by the weyrwoman and they proceeded to place them on the harth to keep them warm. The headwoman was requested to bring bowls of meat from the weyrling barracks. (Ha! Those new dragonriders had to prepare double - for their hatchlings and for the weyrwoman!)

Anyway, the weyrwoman asked me if I would like one. I was flattered! Within the hour the prepared meat was brought and the rest of the lucky recipients gathered. They were mostly fosterlings. Not one of the chosen group already had a flit that looked to them, and not one was a dragonrider! Very "impressive" if you ask me.

The blue rider told us he had found the clutch as he was relaxing on the beaches of the southern continent. Realizing that the eggs were very hard he knew that he must get them to to some recipients fast.

As he told his story, I noticed the eggs had begun to rock. Grabbing a piece of meat I waited anxiously as my egg began to crack.

With one graceful pop, the egg parted neatly in two and I found myself offering my handful of meat to a hungry bronze hatchling. Eagerly he accepted my offering and I felt a mixed feeling of hunger and contentment from him as he ate. I named him Driz.

Just as I had calmed Driz, and he was resting in the crook of my arm, my eye was drawn to the sack that the blue rider had brought the eggs in. It was moving and rolling on the floor beside the hearth. Carefully I approached and gently opened the moving sack.

To my surprize out lunged a hungry brown hatchling which quickly devoured the half eaten piece of meat Driz had hanging from his mouth. Swiftly I grabbed another piece hoping to appease the second flit before Driz woke up. Before I realized what I had done, I had Impressed them both. The brown I named Haja.

New Additions

It's amazing how fast the weyr is growing. Only yesterday M'lek Impresed bronze Ferth and T'remal, brown Lorth. Then dear Fara surprized us all with her blue Innensith.

Now, we have another hatchling. D'nerek has his little bronze Clarth.

Rumor has it, Ferth has a good chance of catching that junior queen, Zalideth from Dawn Sister's Weyr. She's due to rize soon.

And not to mention, my hungry little friends have grown too!

Brown Haja and Bronze Driz

They have been quite a help, especially when T'remal and Lorth got scored! (go visit! Link above)

Well, there are other pressing matters, so my own record will have to wait.

A sister

I've been so busy keeping up with the rest of the Weyr I forget to write in my own record. My younger sister, Jani came to Jerdan Weyr a few months ago as a candidate. She was so relieved to escape the company of a determined blue rider who wanted her to be his weyrmate. I hope she Impresses. She'd make an excellent dragonrider.

Jani's Impression

There was a hatching today at Draconia Weyr. Jani stood as a candidate and I went along to watch. The first to hatch was a gold. You don't see that too often. Well, as it goes, one of the last to hatch, a white, chose my sister. Gerigiath is the new white's name, and she'll join the queens wing when she grows up.
