Chapter 12

The film was nearly done with already and there were just a few more scenes we had to work on. After another long day, I lied down on the couch in my dressing room trailer. Three days had passed and I still haven’t talked to Kenneth about Christina. But earlier today I told him I had to talk to him about something and he said he had something to tell me too. So I told him to meet me in my trailer after filming was over for the day. There was a knock on the door and I told them to come in. The door opened, Kenneth came in and closed the door behind him. I said hi and sat up and he joined me on the couch.

"Hi Jennifer. Look, I know you wanted to talk to me about something, but do you mind if I ask you something first?"

"Sure! What is it?"

"Now I hope you don’t take this the wrong way, but would you like to have dinner with me tomorrow night? You know, so we can discuss things about the movie and everything."

"Well, I’ll have to ask Tony first, just so he doesn’t think anything strange is going on."

"Oh of course. We’re just going as friends, and a sort of boss/employee thing"

"Great! Then we can discuss something that I’ve been wanting to tell you for a while."

"Same here," he said with a smile. "Well, I must be off. See you tomorrow!"

"Bye Ken."

He left the room and I lay back down on the couch.

When I went home to our new apartment, I found the place to be dark and quiet.

"Tony, are you home?" I said as I turned on some lights. I went into our bedroom and found Tony in bed. He was already asleep so I left the room and went into the kitchen to find something to eat.

The next morning, I was half-asleep and half-awake when I rolled over to the other side of the bed. I was expecting to feel another body next to me when I discovered otherwise. I opened my eyes and didn’t see Tony lying next to me. Instead I found a note resting on his pillow. I put my glasses on and read what was written.

"Jen, I’m stepping out for a while. Got work to do. Tony."

Great. I wondered how long he’d be gone. I still have to ask him about dinner with Ken. But I didn’t worry too much about it right now since I could always call home between scenes and talk to him.

When I got to work that morning, Ken asked me what Tony thought about the two of us going to dinner. I told him that I haven’t spoken with Tony yet and I would try to get a hold of him before the day was over.

"There’s one minor problem for today, Jennifer," said Kenneth.

"What’s that?"

"Christina said she had some business to take care of again so she might not come in today."

"That’s just fine with me. I can manage my own clothes for another day. That’s good too. I’m going to have a comfortable day today."

"Tell me about it," he said with a little laugh.

"Oh really? Why is that?"

"We’ll discuss it later over dinner."

"Okay so don’t talk to me today so we’ll have something to talk about tonight!"

"Will do," he said and saluted me. We laughed and left each other to get back to work.

Half the day went by, and Tony was never home whenever I called. After lunch, I went to my trailer to try to call Tony again. He still wasn’t home. I was about to get up from my chair when there was a knock at the door. I told them to come in and in came Ken.

"Look who I found outside," he said as Tony walked in.

"There you are!" I said as we walked up to each other. "I’ve been calling the house all day to talk to you."

"I’ll leave you two alone. See you at two, Jennifer," he waved and went out the door. I grabbed Tony’s arm and led him to the couch.

"Okay I’ve been wanting to ask you something all day long. Would it be okay with you if I had dinner with Kenneth tonight?"

"Just the two of you?"

I nodded. "We have some business to discuss, as you already know."

"You haven’t told him about that Christina girl yet?"

"No, not yet."

"Jen, don’t wait until the situation gets worse."

"I know, I know. But Christina hasn’t been working for the past two days, so I haven’t had any problems with her."

Tony held my hand and smiled at me. "Yes, you can go with Ken tonight. Just get this matter off your hands!"

"I’ll see what I can do!" I said and gave him a hug. The door opened and Christina walked in. Tony and I looked up at her and she had a shocked look on her face.

"Tony, this is—"

"Sarah. Yes, we’ve met already," he interrupted.

"What? No, THAT’S Christina, my wardrobe lady. Sarah’s a different lady who does my makeup." I looked at both Tony and Christina. "What’s going on here?"

"Look, why don’t I let you two sort this out," said Christina as she made her way out of the trailer.

"Wait!" I called to her but she was gone. I KNOW she heard me! "Okay Tony. What was that all about?"

"The day after we talked about Christina, I decided to come here to see what I could gather up. Then the other day I met ‘Sarah,’ or Christina, as we just saw," he explained.

"What did she tell you?"

"She told me that you and Ken are together most of the day."

"We HAVE to. He’s my ‘love interest’ and director!"

"She told me you screwed up the love scene just so you and Ken can be in bed together longer."

"Ugh, she’s lying to you! You know I didn’t do that! SHE’S the one who screwed up the scene! You don’t believe anything she’s told you, do you?

"Of course not. I know you, Jennifer."

I breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you. I don’t think anything she’s told you is the truth. Not even her name! You see how sneaky she is? She HAS to be Nannette!"

We both laughed, even though it wasn’t something to really be laughing at.

At 2:00 I left Tony in the trailer to find Ken and Christina. I found both of them, together, sitting on a couch on the set. I wanted to talk to each one of them separately, so I waited until they separated. They both walked away from each other with disappointed looks on their faces. I came up to Christina.

"What’s this about you telling Tony all that bullshit? What are you trying to do?"

She gave me a dirty look and replied with, "There’s no bullshit here. You KNOW you want Kenneth!" Then she walked away from me. I stood there all alone and wanting to hit something, (or somebody, rather) really hard. Kenneth walked up to me and said, "We REALLY have to talk tonight. What did Tony say?"

"He said it’s okay. And you’re right. We REALLY have to talk tonight."
