Chapter 8

It was now the end of June and the school year was over. One afternoon I was packing a few of my belongings into a luggage bag. For some reason I had a feeling that I would have to fly out of the country somewhere to film this movie. I was hoping I wouldn't have to fly back to the States or else I'd be too far away from Tony. But then again, he could always come with me.

In the middle of my packing the phone rang and I picked it up. It was Theresa on the other end.

"Hey! Did you hear the news?"

"What news? I haven't been out of the house all day," I said as I sat on the couch.

"They're going to be filming a movie at this university!"

"Oh wow. Well--wait a sec. Not the movie I'M going to be in, is it?"

"Yes, I think so. Somebody mentioned Branagh and they all went crazy."

"Out of all the people in the world, why am I the last to know this? Ugh."

"You sound disappointed."

"Well it's just that I packed all this stuff and now I have to unpack it all because it looks like I'm not going anywhere!"

"At least you know that Tony will be nearby."

"Yeah, that's the good thing about it."

At that moment I heard knocking at the front door.

"Oh! I gotta go. I think Tony's here. I'll see you around, okay?" We said our good-bye's, I hung up the phone and went to the door. I opened it and Tony literally jumped at me, put his arms around me and pushed us inside the house.

"Tony! Glad to see you too! What's gotten into you?" I said with my face scrunched up against his shoulder.

"Oh I don't know. I just felt like jumping out and hugging you like that!" he said with a laugh. He kissed the top of my head and let me loose. "So have you heard from Kenneth lately about where the movie is going to be filmed?"

"Apparently not. Theresa just called and told me that they're filming it here. How did everybody else find out about this before me?"

"I dunno luv. I'm guessing that Ken's people asked us for permission first and it somehow got around the school. Is it that big of a deal for you?"

I chuckled a little and then went to my room and sat on the edge of the bed. Tony followed closely behind me and stood at the doorway.

"No, I don't really care anymore. I'm still waiting for him to call though."

"Going on a trip?" Tony asked and joined me at the edge of the bed.

"No. See I packed because I thought we'd be shooting on location somewhere else, but it turned out otherwise. So why did you come here?"

He moved closer and put his arms around me. "Just to tell you about the movie, and to see you, of course. So, what are we going to do today?"

I patted Tony's right thigh and stood up. "First of all, you can help me unpack!" I stood right in front of him and began playing with his hair. He looked up at me with those eyes of his, which seemed to twinkle at me for some reason, and said "Then what?"

"We'll just have to wait and see..."

The next day, I finally got that phone call from Kenneth. I could have easily called him first but I figured he was probably busy and that I should wait for him to call. And so he did.

"Okay guess what happened to me the other day?" I asked as I was reclining on my couch.

"What's that, luv?"

"Well my friend called me and said that there was going to be a movie filmed at our school. I said 'really' and asked if it was the movie I was going to be in and she said 'the mention of Branagh made them go crazy.'"

"Wait, let me guess. You're angry because you didn't hear about it from me first."

"Yeah that's right, but I'm not so mad about it anymore. At least I know now."

"Well then. Now we're all set. All you have to do is show up on campus on the first and we'll begin working. If you need to talk with me about something, you have my number. Just call anytime."

"Okay. Will do. I'll see you then!"

"Yes goodbye dear!"

I turned the phone off, sat up and put it back on the receiver. "Well THAT was the shortest phone conversation I've ever had," I thought to myself as I got up and left my room.

It was the morning of July 1st and I woke up with an arm draped over my waist. I smiled to myself as I remembered that Tony had spent the night over. I began to rub his arm as I squinted at the clock. It was only 8am, which was way too early for me, especially during the summer. I sat up on the edge, ready to get up when Tony hung onto my waist and moved closer to me.

"Where do you think you're going?" he said tiredly.

"Good morning to you too, dear," I said as I reached over to the bedside table for my glasses. "I need to take a shower."

"Ah yes, it's your first day of work," he said as he nudged his chin onto the side of my hip.

"Yup, it is," I said and started messing up his hair even more than before. "You can go back to sleep while I take a shower, k?" I got up and head towards the bathroom.

"Of course. It's too bloody early for me to be getting up," said Tony as he rolled over and pulled the covers over his head.

I left the house at 9 with Tony soundly sleeping in my bed. I made my way to the courtyard of the school and I saw nobody there. Maybe I was early. I sat on the water fountain and waited to see if anybody else would show up.

"Jennifer?"

I heard a familiar voice calling my name. I turned my head and saw Kenneth coming out of the library.

"Oh hi! I'm guessing I'm late, huh?" I asked as I stood up and walked towards Kenneth.

"Not really. We're all still waiting for some people to arrive."

"Oh. So where is everybody?"

"They're in the library. Come on."

We went into the library and there was only four other people sitting at a table. I followed Kenneth as he led me to this table.

"Everybody, this is Jennifer. She'll be playing the role of Natalie. Jennifer, these are your fellow cast mates."

"Hello everyone! Um, so there's only five people in this movie?"

Kenneth laughed and helped me to my seat.

"Actually, there's supposed to be one more person here. But yes, you all are the main characters. We've hired the rest of the school as the extras."

The library door opened and closed. We all looked in that direction and saw Cary Elwes coming towards us.

"Sorry I'm late. Got lost," he said as he ran his hand through his hair and took a seat at the end of the table. I was wondering whether he was going to play the professor."

"Okay. Now that we're all here, let's begin with a script-reading," was Kenneth's first demand.

We all had a script in front of us and we all turned to page one. I read through the cast list and discovered for myself that Kenneth was the man I was going to fall in love with.
