Dining Out Equal to their passion for
shopping, the people of Jeddah like to dine out.
The time was when eating outside the home in Jeddah was more experimental
and a test of one's constitution than any gastronomic extravaganza, but today
nothing could be further from the truth. Each of the vast number of different cultures mingling in the
city has brought with them a demand for their home country dishes with the
result of a smorgasbord of choice to excite even the most jaded of palates.
There are hundreds of restaurants, ranging from the elegant to the
casual, the budget-blowing to those that only just manage to use up those piles
of loose change. Try a Brazilian
skewer banquet, an Italian pasta feast, an American burger fully loaded, an
Afghani rose bukhari, a Pakistani nihari, a Lebanese shiwarma, English fish and
chips, a Thai Green Curry … pity those on just a two year contract as they
will never have the time to enjoy all of the culinary corners that the city has
to offer. For a business lunch or dinner, snack on the run, Friday brunch or a
special night out, Jeddah's eateries offer memorable dining experiences to suit
all occasions - some for their locations, others their décor or their views -
the really special ones combine all three.
And should you wish to entertain at home, many of
these hotels and restaurants will recreate their menus (and virtually anything
of your choice), even supply you with the chef and waiters, leaving you to enjoy
the company of your guests. So, are you a health nut or a glutton? Vegetarian or confirmed carnivore? Have you a mouse-like appetite or does it take five courses to satiate you? There is something for everyone … click on the links on the left. Especially Recommended: The Green Island (International) Spears (Unique) Hokkaido (Japanese) Toki (Unique) Il Castello (Italian) Student Cafe (Indian/Budget)
The Dining Out Guide's primary objective is to let you know what you can eat and where to eat it in Jeddah. With that in mind, the section is part review and part directory. We would be delighted to receive any reviews and location details of any restaurants that have not been included - send an email! |
