Jazz Moves Dance School
About the Classes
Please note: Not all classes run in all semesters. This page is class descriptions, for a schedule see the menu at the side.
Jazz Dance
Jazz Dance, or Jazz/Funk will stress the practising and perfecting of jazz technique. Each hour and a half class will include basic preparatory technique exercises, locomotor work across the floor, stretching and finally the learning of a routine. All movement is accompanied by the sound of today's popular music. Why not join our fun-filled classes of hardworking dedicated students and learn your "Jazz Moves" too! Jazz Funk is the same as jazz class but with an emphasis on the Funk stylings.
- Beginners
This is an introduction to basic technique, proper alignment, basic steps and building blocks concentrating on creating a good foundation to move on. Students range from those with no experience to those who have had one or two years of dance background.
- Intermediate I
This classes works on the breakdown of more complex dance steps especially introduction to the break down of turns and jumps. Correct alignment, placement of arms, positioning of hips, etc. is also emphasized. Recommended for students who had have one or two years of dance.
- Intermediate II or Intermediate Intensive
This class will have a technical focus and will concentrate on guiding the intermediate student to work on correct technique, turns (chain�s, piqu�s, pirouettes, jazz turns, ballet turns, etc.) and leaps (grande jetes, turning jumps, tour jetes, etc.) Class will consist of full warm up with corrections, progressions, jumps & turns across the floor and finish with a sequence. Emphasis is also placed on "performance qualities" such as flow, transitions, style and amplitude to bring the dancer to a more advanced level. Intermediate Intensive is the two hour version of this class. Recommended for students with two to four years of dance.
- Intermediate/Advanced and Advanced
Recommended for the more advanced student. These classes will introduce the student to complex combinations including advanced jumps and turn sequences. There will be very little technical breakdown and combinations will be taught quickly. Much emphasis will be placed on style, and performance qualities. Class moves at a rapid pace. Recommended for students with a minimum of four years of dance. Some ballet, modern or other strong technical background is an asset.
Hip Hop
This class will introduce dancers to the high energy dance style known as hip hop. Learn basic style, terminology and moves. NOTE: Only INDOOR shoes (ie: NEVER worn outside) are permitted at the dance studio.
Repertoire
REPERTOIRE (Level: Intermediate and up). This class will focus on learning choreographic repertoire. Class will consist of a short warm-up with the remainder of the class will be rehearsal format. Students will concentrate on qualities such as amplitude, projection, group movement, expression and polishing pieces to performance level. Admittance by audition or with permission of the instructor. NOTE: This class is not offered in all semesters.
