our proposal tree Suhi thought this year’s birthday would be uneventful. She had to write her last take-home examination, and she had already celebrated her birthday with Jarred. In the midst of writing her exam, Jarred suggested a lunch break. Suhi replied, “Ok. Do you want to take a quick trip to Burger King?” Jarred said, “Well, I was thinking of something more picturesque. Suhi thought the word picturesque was a bit bizarre for anywhere in downtown San Francisco but went along with his suggestion. They headed toward Yerba Buena Gardens. Strangely, Jarred suggested a detour via Union Square. He said, “Let’s go look at the big Christmas tree and breathe in the city life before we leave for Tennessee tomorrow.”

In the middle of Union Square, Jarred and Suhi stood by the huge Christmas tree. Jarred said, “This is such a beautiful tree. I wish I had another gift to give you on your actual birthday. . . oh, wait! I do have a gift for you.” The gift was in a brown paper bag. Inside, there was a pink handmade soap which displayed a cross section of a bride and a groom. The soap was wrapped in a pink ribbon which read “je t'aime.“ Tied to the ribbon was an engagement ring!

Surrounded by cable cars, Christmas decorations, holiday shoppers, tourists, street performers and lunch crowd, Jarred got down on his knees and asked, “Will you marry me?” Overjoyed, Suhi said, “YES!!!”
