Ms. Suhi Koizumi, the bride

Baby Suhi December 17, 1977. 9:00 AM. After laboring for fifteen hours, Ms. Young Rye Lee (mommy) heard the first cry of her baby girl. Mr. Tsuneo Koizumi (daddy) named the girl Suhi, which means "talented princess". Suhi's parents raised her with much love in Seoul, Korea for the next fourteen years.

In 1992, Suhi left home and moved to Tokyo, Japan. She enrolled in Seisen International School, where she first learned English. It was also the first time she learned how to cook, clean, do laundry and take care of herself. Of course, she couldn’t have done it without the help of her parents who came to visit her as often as possible.

After a year in Japan, Suhi moved to the USA to attend Cheshire Academy in Cheshire, Connecticut. Among the many wonderful people she met at Cheshire was Julie Chen, Suhi's best friend and now her matron of honor.

Suhi went on to Wesleyan University and majored in Government and East Asian Studies. Suhi has a very special attachment to her alma mater which allowed her to double major and take a broad range of classes: from Chinese History and International Political Economy to Experimental Music and Javanese Dance.

As soon as she graduated, Suhi moved to New York City to work as a paralegal. She wasn't too happy with her office job, so she moved to Canada to continue her education. As a masters student in Political Science and Asia Pacific Studies at the University of Toronto, Suhi studied urban low-income housing projects as a means to alleviate poverty in the developing countries.

Suhi decided that a career in academia was not for her and finally made her way to San Francisco, CA where she is a second year student at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. She currently represents asylum clients at the East Bay Sanctuary. She is very excited about her upcoming summer clerkship at the Asian Law Caucus where she will be strategizing to revalidate permanent resident status of victims of fraudulent processing by a corrupt immigration officer, culminating in a July hearing. She will also be defending the permanent resident status of two mentally ill long-term permanent residents; establishing the American nationality of an immigration detainee; and preparing an asylum case based on family violence.

About Suhi's Family:

Her father, Mr. Tsuneo Koizumi, is an entrepreneur, an excellent chef and a life enthusiast. Her mother, Ms. Young Rye Lee, is also an entrepreneur and a superb golfer. They co-own and manage a company which manufactures and exports intricate furniture and Japanese ceremonial altars called Butsudan.

Suhi also has two wonderful grandmothers. Her Korean grandmother, Ms. Gye Nam Kim, practically raised her. Suhi's many favorite childhood memories include Mr. Kim's bedtime stories and homemade snacks. Ms. Yoshiko Koizumi, her Japanese grandmother, is an amazing lady - the first female CPA in Japanese history, national Haiku champion, world-class baker, gingerbread house maker, and shamisen player. Both grandmothers love Suhi very much and wish that they could come to the wedding.
