Koko was a test-lab monkey that was accidently freed from Star Labs by the Legionnaires during their time in the 20th century. He immediately bonded to Brainiac 5 and refused to be separated from him. Although initially annoyed by the presence of the primate, Brainy eventually grew tolerant of him and learned to ignore him. When the Legion Outpost was hijacked by the Fatal 5, the Legionnaires tracked it to a remote undeveloped planet called Tenazor-4, which had a primate life-form similar to Koko. After the Fatal 5's defeat by the Legionnaires, Koko stayed behind on the planet with a stolen Legion flight ring. Brainiac 5.1 was disappointed at losing his little friend but he expressed to his team-mates that he was glad to be rid of the pest.

Proty and several shape-changing creatures like himself were caught trying to plant a bomb in the Legion head-quarters by the Legion's support staff, including Shvaughn Erin, Marla Latham, Chuck Taine, Tenzil Kem and Lori Morning, while the Legion was away on a mission. Most of the creatures were killed during the attempt, but Proty was saved by Lori Morning and in turn saved her life. The Legion later discovered that the Mantis Morlo had sent the creatures to destroy their head-quarters. Proty possesses limited intelligence and has remained with Lori as a companion, or pet, since their initial meeting but remained with the Legion when Lori joined Leland McCauley's Work-Force. His whereabouts since then are unknown.
