Golden Gate Bridge links San Francisco also with Mediterranean-style community called Sausalito, meaning
Little Grove of Willows. Sausalito is often compared to the French Riviera, it has a wonderful selection of restaurants and shops lining its scenic marina on Bridgeway. The best way to experience it's beauty is to take one of many Bay Cruises or a ferry, while enjoying the loveliest San Francisco views from the boat decks.
Bay Bridge, another huge, double-deck bridge dominant, is connecting the city with the other side of San Francisco Bay, and offers a spectacular sight even during the night. | |||||
| Alcatraz Island, the most popular visitor's stops also called "The Rock" served as maximum security prison. Although the island is only 1.6 km from shore there is no evidence of any successful escapes due to the icy waters of San Francisco Bay. Just as well The Rock offers breathtaking views of the city dominated not only by the bridges, but also skyscrapers and the famous Transamerica Pyramid.
No visit to the city is complete without taking a scenic joy ride on a famous San Francisco's cable car. It travels up and down the hills pulled by a steel cable embedded in the street. Cable car will take you throughout the city not missing on very popular Lombard Street known as "the crookedest street in the world" because of its sharp turns on a 40-degree slope. |

Pan American Expo. In preparation for the expo, a Palace was built to house the exhibits and named The Palace of Fine Arts. It was meant to mirror ancient Greek architecture and to give a feeling of achievement and prosperity. However it was intended to be torn down right after the fair, a small portion of the Palace, its surrounding lagoon and a park was preserved and is still enjoyed not only by tourists.
