How do we say "Goodbye"
To someone we Love?
What words alone can express our love
When their life is done?
Words alone cannot express
The pain of loss that will not heal,
Nor will words alone give voice
To the emptiness we feel.
How do we say "Goodbye"
To the brother or sister that we loved so much?
How do we say "farewell" to someone
By who's life we were so greatly touched?
What words can fill the void
Where their presence used to be?
What words can stop the flood of tears
Caused by each and every memory?
How do we say "Goodbye" to a Parent,
Without who's love we will be lost?
A mother or a father who's love provided shelter
When on life's stormy seas we were tossed.
How can we express the feelings of loneliness
That words alone cannot convey?
How do we communicate the loss we feel
If not in the words we say?
How do we say "Goodbye" to our friends
Who, by their faithfulness, earned our trust?
How hard it will be to let go of them
Even when we know we must.
Perhaps the sadness isn't in saying "Goodbye",
For we are all once more destined to meet.
Maybe the sadness is in the feeling
That our lives are no longer complete.
Perhaps we shouldn't say "Goodbye"
Although our loved one's earthly life is done,
Because now they walk with Jesus
And their true "Living" has just begun.
