Laura and Bill reunited in 1975, and she became pregnant with his child. Julie became pregnat with Bob's child. She seperated with Bob even though Doug told her he did not love her. She moved in doug's guest room to try and win him back. Doug, meanwhile, arranged for a surrogate mother to bear his child so that little Hope would have a sibling. Rebbecca North was the one but she used the pregnacy to hold onto Johnny.

David returned to town with his girlfriend Brooke Hamelton. Brooke was jealous of David's newfound closeness to his mother, and she spread rumors that Julie had been unfaithful to Bob. Further, she lied that Julie was pregnant with Doug's child. Julie and David got into an argument and David drove his car into a river and was presumed dead. Brooke od on sleepin pills but lived.

Dave in reality was alive and lived with a black family the Grants and fell in love with there daughter Valerie. When he returned to Salem, Julie hurried down the stairs, fell, and suffered a miscarriage.

Even though Brooke was pregnat with David's child, she knew he was in love with Valerie and she refused his offer of marriage.
