Front & Back Turn Sequence: (Quickstep) Part 6
The first basic sequence. |
Please Note: This is a sequel to Basic Sequence: Front & Back (Cha Cha Cha)
Sequence:
Note: The each of the first
two steps, for example Rock Step, have a rhythm Slow or S, which takes two beats
and a Quick or Q takes 1 beat of the music. Thus the rhythm for the Chasse is
Quick (Q), Quick (Q), Slow (S).
1. Rock Turn
Q Q S
2. Front Turn Q Q S
3. Back Turn Q Q S
4. Rock Turn Q Q S
5. Front Turn Q Q S
6. Back Turn Q Q S
Note:
Earlier the above sequence was practiced primarily with Cha Cha Cha
in mind, and later the same movements were adopted for Jive. Similarly the same
sequence can be practiced for Quickstep as well. The only thing required is the
substitution of the rhythm for Quickstep, “Slow, Slow, Quick, Quick, Slow”
in place of 2, 3, Cha, Cha, 1 (Cha Cha Cha) or 1, 2, 3, &, 4 (Jive)
respectively. See the table below:

1. This sequence hones the movements for the Natural Turns, Reverse
Turns, and Spin Turns both clockwise and counter clockwise movements.
2. Slow step takes two beats and a Quick step takes 1 beat time value of the
music.
3. The hips are kept firm and not moved as much as for the Latin American dances
as the Cha Cha Cha and Jive.
4. Man guides the lady preferably with his Right hand only.
5. Knees are kept relaxed.
6. When stepping forward for the slow step heel touches first and then going on
to the flat foot.
7. When moving backwards for the slow step the toes touch the floor, with the
controlled lowering of the heel to avoid a “pull away” effect.
8. When moving back step only after the partner who is moving forward has
stepped.
9. Although the movement is same here as that for Cha Cha Cha and Jive, the
character of the dance changes due to the different character of music.
