Thanking residents for their support and generosity, requesting participation in Rabindranath Tagore's birthday celebrations. This is a printable gif image with transparent areas between black text. The background white of the webpage is showing through. English Translation (well..., more or less) The Citizens' Meet on 21st April was a 100% success! All credit goes to you. The invited guest have repeatedly acknowledged our united effort. They were astonished at how fast you have changed the situation of Central Road. Our next goal - renovation of the pond. This requires money. And you have generously responded even to that call! Sri Tapas Dasgupta has donated Rs 1000/-, Prof A.K. Mandal, Smt Runu Bose, Smt Nilima Dasgupta and Smt Manjusha Guha have each donated Rs 500/-(Smt Dasgupta's name was not included in the original leaflet as the generous donation - she is a pensioner, was made a few days later. However we consider it fit to include the name in this translation) Apart from this, there are others tirelessly working regardless of their age, health or professional contraints. Everyone has a single dream - that people cease to call this region uncivilized. If you wish to pay the monthly subscription of Rs 20/- in a bulk of 2 or 3 months worth, you are welcome - the renovation work could be brought nearer(This, when we were still thinking that the costs of renovation could be borne by us. When the projected costs were found to be quite steep, and the Councillor of ward 93 promised to undertake the responsibility, and after other considerations we decided to wait. More of that in here...) 25th Baisakh(Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore's birthday) lies just ahead(9th May, 2002). There is a popular demand for a cultural function. Probably on 11th May. What could be better if the subscriptions are made before that?! The days of "Ekla Cholo Rey" have ended(referring to Tagore's song inspiring people to move on their own even if there is no support), we have all responded to each other's call. Please participate in Kavi Vandana(paying homage to the poet), whichever way you can. Sing a song, recite a poem, read from a prose - whatever you like. This once-isolated, tortured community is witnessing a new surge of life. With care, we will make our neighbourhood beautiful. We must!
