Meet our Caller/Cuer

Jack and Jeanette
Jack Blood and his lovely wife, Jeanette

We are very proud announce that on Saturday August 27, 2005 Jack and Jeanette Blood were inducted into the Spokane Area Council Hall Of Fame.

Jack has been calling for the Jacks & Jenny’s since 1982. He has brought the club from it's infancy to a club boasting over 100 members today. At 70 he continues the hard work of bringing us into the new millennium (or is that dragging us) with superb guidance, innovative lesson ideas, his own imaginative songs and calls, continued learning workshops, visitations and guest calling. Not to mention his talent for theater and mime.

Jack and Jeannette began dancing in 1980 right here in Spokane and have been members of the Jacks and Jenny’s since 1981. Even as a new dancer Jack knew he was destined to be a caller and in 1982 he embarked on a new career as caller. He made his first guest appearance for the Jacks & Jenny’s in 1982 and after many "guest appearances" became the club caller in the fall of 1983. His first class boasted one full square of new dancers and the toe tapping and familiar calls filled a club members garage. Not only were they busy calling and teaching but also acted as club President in 1983-1984.

He began to teach rounds for the Toms and Tabbies, a local senior citizens club in 1984 and continued for 10 years. Rounds were taught in the basement of a members home that came complete with a dance floor. He cued for the Coeurly Q's in Coeur d'Alene from 1988-1999 and called for the High Flyers for 5 years.

Jack's career includes appearances as Featured or Guest Caller for the Sam Steele Days in Cranbrook BC, the June Jump Festival in Osborne ID and the Damn Hot Foot days in Metaline Falls WA.

Over the years of Jack's career he and Jeanette have traveled thousands of miles to delight dancers on cruise ships to many exotic places such as; St. Martins, St. Thomas, and other eastern and western Caribbean islands. Jack's calls and yodels have been heard in many tips on several of the exotic islands and in Cancun, Mexico.

They have traveled thousands of miles state side and also into Canada as guest caller for clubs all over the Northwest and Canada. A favorite place to call for several years was Fairmont Hot Springs in Canada for a summers week-end get-a-way.

Jack and Jeanette have attended every Washington State Festival since they began dancing with the exception of one in 1992 and have attended National Conventions in Seattle Wa, Anaheim, CA, Salt Lake City, UT and Portland OR. And yes, they continue to travel and this past summer was no exception as they traveled across the state for the KSDA camp out in Gorst, WA where Jack entertained at the after party in a classical mime with fellow caller Don Cochrane. They also attended the Washington State festival in Enumclaw Washington and once again the National Festival in Portland, Oregon.

Jack is a very gifted caller and well known throughout the Northwest for creating his own calls and story lyrics, and of course for his incredible talent and ability to yodel.

Jacks & Jenny’s are very proud and honored to have Jack Blood and his lovely wife as our caller.

Where We Dance

Our new and beautiful hall, North Spokane Dance Association is located at 7424 N. Freya Street, in Spokane, WA. NSDA is also the home of the Washington State Federation Heritage Center Square Dance Museum which proudly displays the history of Square Dance in Washington State. Truly a must see experience for every dancer, whether you dance here in the Spokane area or are visiting from other areas of the state or country. It is a well kept journal of all the clubs in the state, the callers, past and present and the dancers, who made the sport possible, and the award recipients of club honors and state honors over the years of dancing in the great Northwest.

From the past to the present, it is a living memorial to those whose love of Square and Round Dance, perserverence, dedication and hard work make it possible for everyone to continue to enjoy the art of dance.
