Summary:
When Daniel is lost on a mission that goes bad the rest of SG-1 learn to
cope, unaware that he is alive still.
Blinded and with amnesia, Daniel
is befriended by an alien male, Trepur, and cared for lovingly until his
sight returns, forming a strong affection between both men.
Given the name Genkel (meaning
Lost Soul on Trepur's world) Daniel lives with Trepur, adopts his life
style and even begins to remember a life before his accident - but is it
his real past that he recalls?
Time passes and Daniel grows
stronger in both mind and body and starts to ask Trepur about the
herrict (Stargate). At first Trepur is wary of telling his friend
anything about the gate, concerned that it will destroy their happy
little world like it destroyed his before, but, Daniel being Daniel,
persuades Trepur that nothing will destroy them.
Together they explore - and one
day, on a distant world, they are found by SG-9 and brought back to
Earth.
Now able to see clearly - thanks
to the glasses Jack presents to him - Daniel is unsettled by the
surroundings of the SGC Base. Unable to recall any of his friends,
he turns to Trepur more and more, which upsets the rest of his team,
especially Jack.
When Daniel complains of being
treated like a prisoner and demands to be allowed to leave Earth Janet
steps in to help.
With his (mental) slate clean,
Daniel rediscovers Sam, Teal'c and Jack (under close supervision from Dr
MacKenzie and Dr Frasier) - only to question why he'd befriend any of
them in the first place, especially Teal'c - the Jaffa who stole his
wife from him and killed her, and Colonel O'Neill - the arrogant officer who makes him
nervous whenever he's around him.
Daniel has a long road to
recovery and along the way he has to face many challenges.
Eventually he has to decide whether to stay on earth with people he
doesn't know, or leave and return to a life with Trepur.
Only the truth can help him
decide.. So who's not telling Daniel the real truth?
Story
notes:
The name
TREPUR is Rupert spelt backwards. Talented and versatile English actor,
Rupert Graves, is my all-time favourite actor. The name GENKEL is
just made up as I went along!
Prior to
hearing about the return of Daniel in S7, this story had the following
scenes already written:
- Daniel is lost then found on a world by another SG team, with amnesia.
- Daniel's eyesight is improved when he returns to earth, thereby making
him sure he did belong there at one point.
- Jack always gave him the glasses, as he knew where Daniel kept his
'spares'.
- Daniel has trouble recalling his place on the team, or in the lives of
the rest of SG-1. His repressed feelings for Teal'c following FiaD
surface through the amnesia and are part of his 'recovery'.
- When allowed 'out' Daniel and Trepur cause concern to Sam and Janet,
making the women painfully aware that while the man might 'look' like
Daniel, he was still not the man they used to know.
- Daniel has to investigate the reasons why O'Neill seems to know him so
well when he feels nothing but anxiety whenever he is around him.
How could they have been friends when they are so different?

Beware,
it's a work in progress so it will take a while to get from here to the
full product. I am actively working on this fic though, so with
good fortune and well-behaving muses, it should be up within the next
few months.
