Summary:
Jack discovers Daniel is homosexual and has recently been living in a
domestic-violence relationship with a Lawyer named Peter Dove.
Daniel reveals that Peter's
recreational drug use (used occasionally between them to heighten their
sexual experiences) had grown into a habit, making the man violent and
unreasonable.
Jack is furious to think that his
team member might be influenced by drugs when on missions, and cites the
incident with the sarcophagus as a point of reference.
Daniel assures him that he personally doesn't use drugs anymore and
never did around a mission - just on long leaves. Daniel also
reassures Jack that the relationship with Dove is well and truly over.
Jack trusts him.
However, it is clear that the
gentle-natured anthropologist still believes there is good in his
ex-partner so when Dove makes contact Daniel tries to reach through to
the man that he once loved deeply.
When Daniel is at first
threatened, then beaten and raped, by Peter Jack steps in to help,
showing the darker side of himself to Daniel.
Through a series of conversations
O'Neill inadvertently reveals his own feelings for the archaeologist but
tells Daniel that nothing can happen between them, as per military
protocol. The confession strengthens the men's friendship, though,
and a cat-and-mouse game of flirtation and unfulfilled sexual tension
begins between them.
Dove disappears out of Daniel's
life, which pleases Jack, and it's some weeks before Daniel receives a
letter from Peter begging forgiveness and giving Daniel a cherish
memento. When Daniel tries to get in touch with the supposedly
'reformed' man he discovers that Dove died of an AIDS related illness
weeks ago and that the letter had been posted after being discovered
amongst his possession when his sister cleaned out his loft.
Daniel is left facing the
prospect of HIV and AIDS - and the possibility of becoming Tok'Ra in
order to prolong his life if he'd contracted the disease.
Jack's left with the fact that
the man he's loved for a long while might get a 'snake' in his head, and
might be forced to leave the SGC to live and work amongst the Tok'Ra.
Before that happens, both men
contemplate the possibility of finally consummating their suppressed
desires.
Story
notes:
If this
story is faintly familiar to you, especially the AIDS/ HIV angle, it's
because this is the story I was working on when Philip Simmons (of the
Bombshells Series) came to mind. Wanting to take this fic in another
direction with the HIV/AIDS thread, but feeling like it wouldn't suit
this story, I started jotting notes down that eventually took the
Bombshells series to a whole 'nother level! Philip Simmons went from
being a one-scene character (we weren't meant to see him again after the
first scene in Daniel's apartment) to being one of the core characters.
The story (Bombshells) was originally a JD fic and was due to end within
5 more parts from the scene at Daniel's apartment!
Would
Daniel seriously consider becoming a Tok'Ra if he had to?
- Personally? I'm not sure. Would he be a good operative if the
Goa'uld already know his face? Aren't they meant to be under-cover
agents infiltrating the Goa'ulds and bringing them down from the inside?
That's my view on it - I am not sure.
- Fictionally? I'll leave that for you to discover in this story once
it's released.
Would
Daniel take recreational drugs?
- As an anthropologist, and one who has proved himself time and again to
'when in Rome', Daniel may well view the 'weed' with a different
attitude than most, especially if he'd come across it as an
anthropologist. Or perhaps as a writer, I do? Who knows.
I took great pains in assuring Muse Jack that Daniel would be 'straight'
when on missions, so Muse Jack allowed this thread... thankfully!
