Constitutional and
Cultural Capital

Sucre, Chuquisaca´s main city, has been declared as "Monument City of América"  by the ASO in 1979, by 1991, the UN confers Sucre the title of "Cultural Patrimony City of Humanity"

Sucre is the Constitutional Capital of Bolivia and the Nation´s Supreme Court of Justice See. Known as a student and Unversity center both, national and internationaly.. The State University counts with more than 18,000 students from various majors and specialties. The most important are: Medicine and Law.

Sucre is a quaint city, known also as Ciudad Blanca (White City) because most of its houses and buildings are painted in white. Its climate is fair with a mean temperature of about 18 degrees celsius. You can get to Sucre by plane, bus or train. Small, narrow, stoned streets, reminders of the colony cross the city. Some say that it is possible to shake hands with your neighbor across the street from window to window.

Historic downtown has an area of about  one million square miles, it has examples of civil and religious architecture of great value. The central area of the city has a Republican style, with some buildings of Colonial architecture.

At about 5 km away from the city, visitors can find the most numerous dinosaur footprints. It is scientifically proven that it has the biggest variety (150) and the biggest quantity (5,000) of these footprints in the world. There are also many paleotological sites in neighbor communities such as Humaca, Quila-Quila, Maragua, and Chahuanaca.

Tarabuco is a small town at about 60 Km from Sucre, where they held country fairs every sunday. Members of the communities around take their products and textiles for sale. Its most important reunion is the PUJLLAY, where as many as 60 communities participate with their tipical costumes, music and dances.

Patatoloyo is a region located at about 46 Km from Sucre, where visitors are amazed with archaelogical sites and stone paintings from the precolombian era.

The Glorieta Castel has an architecture with religious characteristics and many other  styles are combined such as the gothic, the barroc and the neoclasic.

Sucre is the cradle of liberty from the conquistadores. This city is also the cradle of many brave and lawful men and women. Sucre is indeed the Cultural Capital of Bolivia.
