Essendon v Western Bulldogs   Round 21

Final Score

Western Bulldogs
Essendon

14.8.92
12.9.81

What a fantastic game!!! The Bulldogs were playing for a guaranteed spot in the finals. Essendon were playing for their 21st win in a row. It was the MIGHTY WESTERN BULLDOGS who came out on top, ending yet another teams winning streak.

Right from the start, it was clear the Doggies were there on a mission to beat them. They obviously had a plan, which the players followed, showing a great deal of discipline.

Some people said the game was ugly, and one Essendon supporter even compared the Dogs tactics to the underarm delivery in cricket. But that is utter rubish. For many Bulldogs supporters, it was the best game they have ever seen. Certainly it was the best game I have ever seen.

To see the desperation of all the players...to see players in defense marking or spoiling...and then to see it go down to the other end resulting in a goal was SENSATIONAL!!!

The game was close for the first 3 quarters. One team got a couple of goals and then the other team responded with a couple of goals. At 3 quarter time though the Bombers lead by 15 points. An early goal and a behind to Essendon stretched the margin to 22 points. It seemed like all their hard work may have been for nothing. Enter - Chris Grant. The move of Chris to the forward line worked, in fact, it won us the game. Not only did he kick the winning goal, but the first Bulldog goal of the last quarter that started the comeback.

However, it really was a team effort that got us in that position to win. Just imagine if Dooley hadn't made that spoil that resulted to a goal to Kolynuik. Or imagine if Libba hadn't tackled Lucus which also resulted in a goal etc etc.
