Collingwood v Western Bulldogs Round 20

Final Score

Western Bulldogs
Collingwood

15.10.100
13.13.91

After dominatng the first half, the Bulldogs looked like they were heading for a comfortable win. Scott Wynd was having another great game, as was Romero in his 200th game. Brad Johnson played on Collingwood's best player, Nathan Buckley and was beating him, driving the ball into the Bulldogs forward line on a number of occasions. Also Simon Cox was having a great game in defence.

However, in the third quarter, Collingwood got themselves back into the game. They got to about 3 goals within reach, only for the Bulldogs to kick away to lead by 39 points at three quater time courtesy of 2 goals in a minute by Nathan Eagleton and another by Steve Kolynuik.

The last quarter was, well, a disaster. Collingwood had a huge comeback. They got to within 3 points of the Bulldogs at one stage. Collingwood players were everywhere and an upset looked likely. Bulldog supporters know as well as anyone that when a team gets on a roll they are very difficult to stop.

While Collingwood had misses in the last quarter, so did the Bulldogs. With less than a minute left Paul Hudson goaled from the boundary line about 40 metres out and the game was over. So, what looked like being a 10 goal win to the Bulldogs ended up being yet another nail biting finish. Obviously, the Bulldogs will have to lift considerably next week if they are going to compete with a side that has won all of its games so far this season, in Essendon.
