There is conjecture as to how long Isabel stayed imprisoned at Berwick Castle.
Some sources say between two and four years, while others say as long as seven years.
Where Isabel went after her imprisonment is equally as mysterious.
Some sources say she died while in captivity at Berwick Castle. Some say Isabel was turned
over to a Carmelite nunnery in Berwick, and then given into
the custody of Sir Henry Beaumont, her husband’s nephew, by 1313.
Yet other sources state that Robert the Bruce claimed the countess
from her prison while his family was being restored
to him after the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314.
