The Earl of Atholl, Isabel, and the other ladies moved northward into the hostile territory of Easter Ross. They came to the monastery of St. Duthac at Tain and gained a very welcome sanctuary. The small band of refugees were found out by the Earl of Ross, a foe of Robert the Bruce who lived in the area, and were quickly turned over to the English.
