ON
THE FARM: WORKERS SEEK EQUALITY The generally unenviable plight
of agricultural workers has for many decades been a thorn in the
American social conscience. Large numbers of migrant farm workers,
most of them blacks or Hispanics from the South and the Southwest, as
well as workers who have entered the country either on temporary work
passes or illegally from the Caribbean and Mexico-have been excluded
from the legal protections afforded to most workers in industry and
commerce.
