A message from our Business Manager
William A. Nagy, Jr.

Welcome to our web site.

Ironworkers Local Union #373 was founded in 1921 in territory that was under the jurisdiction of Local Union #11 in Newark at the time. Because traveling was difficult in those days and the volume of work was increasing they could no longer handle all the territory they had to police. Working conditions, pay, and safety on the job was terrible at that time and ironworkers needed a voice to improve their lot in life.

Our jurisdiction includes Middlesex County, Monmouth County and part of Ocean County. We are a "Mixed" Local which means we have members that can do any of the work that falls under the jurisdiction of Ironworkers, structural (bridges, the structural framework of buildings and precast concrete), concrete reinforcing (placing & tying the reinforcing rods for concrete construction) , heavy machinery rigging (the moving and placing of machinery, conveyors, etc.) and ornamental metal, (the erection of curtain wall and windows on the exterior of buildings, and all of the finished handrail, doors and other fancy metalwork you see in all office buildings including elevator doors and revolving doors). Our members are skilled in the use of all metal working tools and many are certified welders. We have a four year apprenticeship program where our members become proficient in basic skills and ongoing journeyman training that all of our members can take advantage of.

We're proud that over the last eighty-seven years we have gradually been able to provide our members with a better life style by increasing wages and fringe benefits and by making working on the job better and safer. Our members and their families now have medical, dental, eyeglasses and prescription drugs provided through our Welfare Fund, they have annual vacations provided through our Vacation Fund and they can look forward to worry free "Golden Years" through our Pension Fund and our Annuity Fund. We still have a long way to go but we look forward to the challenges that the new millennium will bring us.

We, as officers of Local 373, are dedicated to continue the progress of increased wages and working conditions for our members as our predecessors did and therefore it's only fitting that we begin the new millennium by having a presence on the web. We invite you to visit our pages at any time. We will be making many additions and changes as time progresses. This site, like America, is always under construction. We welcome your input and suggestions, so feel free to send them to us via E-mail, phone or snail mail.

Thanks for visiting our site and please come back!!!
