The Cuban missile crisis had many effects on the United States, Kennedy’s flexible Response Doctrine, the new Kennedy administration sought to remedy the perceived flaws of the Eisenhower strategy. They devised a nuclear policy called the Single Integrated Operational Plan (SIOP) Instead of a single choice, a massive strike; the SIOP gave the president a series of options (all large-scale) for the type of nuclear attack to be used, The functional equivalent of an athletic team’s playbook and game plan. The Kennedy administration also called for strengthening U.S conventional forces so that the U.S. would be better prepared in a confrontation where the use of nuclear weapons was not appropriate, such as the anticipated conflict over Berlin. They also put more emphasis on developing a counter contingency capability with units such as the special role in organization. The U.S. refused and provided less and less money. This processes was accentuated during the Johnson administration, which preferred aid arrangements between U.S. and individual countries. Also after the crisis , Limited Test Ban Treaty was signed it stated the following
Prohibits nuclear weapon test explosions and any other nuclear explosions in three environments: in the atmosphere, in outer space and underwater, but does not prohibit underground nuclear explosions. This treaty was signed in 1963..
