| Programs Classroom Forestry Program Several Ionia classrooms will receive presentations from the District staff on the benefits of a forest. This program is geared toward Earth Day in which the classroom will receive white or red pine seedlings from the District to plant. Annual Water Festival A day for 5th grade classes of Ionia County to learn about the importance of our water resource. 550 students have attended in September 2001 and 2002. Project Wet A partnership with the Groundwater Stewardship Program to offer an inservice class for teachers focusing on water education cirriculum. Forty Ionia teachers have been trained. Adult Education Offered Pond Workshop Backyard Naturescaping Workshop Warm Season Grass Workshop Discovery Days A day at the Boyce Elementary Nature Trail for Ionia County 5th grade classes to learn about: Wildlife/Ecology, Water, Rocks/Minerals/Soils, Botany, How you alter the environment. 477 students participate. May 7 & 9 2002. The Boyce Elementary The District received a grant to refurbish the nature trail, which is positioned behind the Boyce Elementary School. We partnered with the Ionia MSU Extension and the Groundwater Stewardship Program to incorporate natural resource and groundwater education into the nature trail. Annual field days are held at the trail to promote conservation to the children of Ionia County. |
