Conservation Districts are locally controlled resource management districts, created by concerned landowners and administered by a publicly elected board of directors. They provide local coordination for many state or federal land and water management programs, plus work with local government units to posititevely influence private land management decisions. Conservation Districts are actively involved in the enforcement of Michigan's Soil Erosion and Sedimentation control Act, and the protection of environmentally sensitive lands. Throughout the year, districts provide conservation planning and technical assistance to individuals who seek to sustain and preserve their piece of Michigan. Ionia Conservation District is one of the Michigan's 83 Conservation Districts, who help manage our state's private and public natural resources.
The primary responsibility of the Ionia Conservation District is to protect our natural resource. It will encourage the use of land or water within the limits of its capabilities and encourage the treatment of each acre with the proper protection and improvement it may need. The District will aquaint the communities it serves with the importance of soil and water conservation, plus assist it's residence with conservation concerns.
