| July 14th, 2003 Yoooooouu isaaaa! Kamaete! We all lean forward and place our paddles parallel to the seat. Yoi! Twenty paddles are lifted simultaneously to a vertical position. Attention! Each of us leans forward so that the tip of our blade skims the surface. Shoulders tighten. My thighs flex expectantly as I repeatedly work to wedge my toes into a better position. Go! Suddenly I'm pulling my paddle so hard through the water it lifts me off my seat. The Taiko drum is slammed with short heavy wooden sticks to a deep triple beat. In unison, twenty backs swing forward. We plunge our paddles forward into the water again and pull back to the boom of the Taiko. At first the excitement of the start keeps us pumped. The lake water splashes into my face and I'm completely focused on matching the sound of the Taiko to my stroke, and the stroke of the guy on my right. I feel like I could go on forever. I look forward and see...400 meters more to go. Oh maybe not. I'm already exhausted. Just as I start to lose my steam a rolling call mixes in with my stroke. "Yoooouu isaaa!" I pull my next stroke with new energy and shout a two beat "So-re!" Again, "yoooouu isaaa!". And nineteen people yell back "So-re!" We yell till we're hoarse and paddle with a strength dragged from deep within us. Tenjin Matsuri kicks off with Dragon Boat races in Osaka. The races start July 20th around 10AM near Sakuranomia station on the Loop Line. Come cheer on your fellow IOC members - because there's no better way to enjoy a hot day then to sip a cool drink while watching your friends work up a sweat!. July 19th - 20th | Saturday to Sunday Shimano Bikers Festival We hope that "the force is with us" when rotating again at the ski slope of Yatsugatake during the cross country competition. Join this years IOC team. Last year we did participate as a team of two and became #6 without any big effort ;-) We are still beginners so feel confident to come with us!
