See the map for directions to get there ____________________________________________________ September 12th - 15th | Friday(night) - Monday (National Holiday) Yariga-dake(3187m) in the north Japan Alps *** Walking on the cloud celestially for 2 night and 4 days. Leader: KojiOtani <Join the event!> Location In: Kamikouchi Nagano-pref. Location Out: Shin-hodaka Onsan Gifu-pref. Meet: JR Namba OCAT 2F 21:00 on Sep 12th. Costs: JPY9000 - Midnight non stop bus from Osaka to Kamikouchi JPY2800 - Bus Shin-hodaka Onsen to Matsumoto bus terminal JPY5710 - Matsumoto to Osaka Bus arrive at Umeda JPY5500 - Hut Yarisawa stay JPY5000 - Hut Yarigadake stay JPY28000 - Total Bring: Rain gear, a change of clothes, strong mountain boots, wind breaker, flashlight, Sleeping-bag and sleeping mat. Required: A head for heights and experience climbing mountains over 2000m. Deadline for application: Aug 24th. Notes: We will bring all food and cooking supplies. If participants want to stay in tents we can modify our plan. ____________________________________________________ September 13-15 | Saturday - Sunday Shikoku's Ehime prefecture to Hiroshima prefecture Shimanamikaido Cycling and Camping * 1/2 Great camping and easy cycling along beautiful island coasts conneted by a series of bike friendly bridges. Return on Monday afternoon, either by ferry or Shinkansen. Arrive in Imabari early on Sat. morning.More details to follow in August. ____________________________________________________ September 13th | Saturday Hike with SAS Students from Pittsburgh * Semester At Sea�s students from Pittsburgh, in the United States, are coming to Japan on Sep 9 to 13. Join us to talk to them while enjoying a hike on Mt. Rokko. After the hike we will go to Arima Hot Springs. 20 students and their professor will attend. SAS is a ship that 600 to 700 students live on board; studying while voyaging all over the world. Leader: Peter Zinnai <Join the event!> Phone : 0774-76-6314 Bring: Please bring your lunch box. At Arima we can bathe at a Onsen (gold hot water or silver), so bring a towel. Note: For details please see their Home Page: http://www.semesteratsea.com ____________________________________________________ September maybe 20th-21st | Saturday-Sunday Five lakes of Mikata and the Echizen Coast * - *1/2 Lets explore the lakes and Echizen coast together. The tour starts at JR Mikuni station, from where we round the lakes and head towards Tsuruga. We follow the scenic coastline up to Echizen, where the comfort of Kareizakiso ryokan (unconfirmed) awaits us. After a treat there, we continue along the coast, till we reach Tojimbo. Well, it's time again for this fun event at Takatori Castle in Nara involving hiking through an enchanting forest and through the walls to the top of the castle remains. A cycle event will also be held on the Sat and Sun. At the castle, we will set up camp late afternoon and prepare for a fun BBQ dinner and enjoy sitting around the campfire toasting marshmallows, telling stories and enjoying good music and wine. Leader: John Andrews <Join the event!> Phone (06) 6369-0502 Reservations: Please RSVP no later than September 25th. Cancelled in the event of typhoon or really bad weather. Transportation: Meeting and transport arrangements will be advised upon reservation. Bring: This is a wonderful venue - but it doesn't have any water - so please do bring plenty - at least 3 litres or more per person. BYO (bring your own) everything (including BBQ meat and utensils), though IOC tents will be available. You will need food for Sat lunch + BBQ dinner (meat etc), Sunday breakfast + lunch Please bring some snacks to share before the BBQ. Notes: For hikers, the course to the castle and return is fairly easy and not long. After lunch on Sat, another hike will be held, as well as the hike down through Tsubosakadera temple and the 500 rock carvings. For the cyclists, we will ride up to the castle for lunch then cycle on Sat afternoon and from mid Sunday morning onwards. The cycle will be intermediate level, requiring a good level of fitness. Helmets are compulsory, also bring a spare tube + repair kit etc. A separate beginners cycle may be held - but to be confirmed later. |
