| June 1st | Sunday Tanzawa Bokka Ekiden Kyoso Taikai Also known as "Nabewari Water Race". Notes: More Details ____________________________________________________ June 7th - 8th | Saturday to Sunday Sunrise Kayaking in Biwa-lake ** Catch the Sunrise on the lake in kayaks. We depart before daybreak and avoid civilization for 1 night and 2 days. Leader: Koji Otani <Join the event!> Location: BSC Water sport center Shiga-pref. Meet: JR Horai 12:00 (Sat) to 10:00 (Sun). Cost: JPY9800- Includes rental tents, dinner, breakfast, rental kayak, sleeping-mats, beginner school fee. Bring: Rain gear, a change of clothes, waterproof/spare shoes, wind breaker, flashlight. Deadline: May 6th. You can join later for JPY11800 - until Jun 4th. Notes: A class will be offered to beginner kayakers from from 16:00-18:00. ____________________________________________________ June 14th | Saturday IOC Meeting Time: Newcomers welcome at 18:00. Regular members come at 18:30. See the map for directions to get there ____________________________________________________ June 15th | Sunday Nara-Yamano Benomichi Hike * Enjoy a mild 14-kilometer hike in the foothills. We will hike from Sakurai to Tenri, a religious city with Tenri-kyo headquarters. Along this ancient trail, there are some graceful remains of ancient Japan making you conjure up the ancient environment of poetical works of Kojiki and Manyo anthology, such as Omiwa shrine, Su-jin tumulus burial (the second biggest tumulus mound in Japan), and Isokami shrine. Leader: Yoko Fujita <Join the event!> Phone 090-8237-4795 Meet: at JR MIWA station (Sakurai line), 10:00 am Directions: From inside Osaka, take Kintetsu Osaka line train, and change trains at Yamamto-takada for JR Sakurai line train bound for Nara. Bring: lunch, drink and hiking footwear Cost: The fare from Osaka sta. to Miwa sta. is about JPY900 one way. Note: This hike will be cancelled if there is more than 40% chance of rain that morning, so please check the weather forecast. ____________________________________________________ June 22nd | Sunday Nabari-Soni kogen or Sakurai-Yoshino Area ** Cycle event in Nara Leader: Chris <Join the event> ____________________________________________________ June 29th | Sunday Cycle to the Japan Sea Coast *** 1/2 A century ride with little traffic from Sanda to Japan Sea Coast. We will first head to Route 173 via Shitsukawa. From route 173 we head to Miwa cho and on to Fukuchiyama. From Fukuchiyama we can have rest, snacks or lunch and from there cycle along Yura river to Japan Sea. The final destination is Kanegamisaki beach. We can take an onsen if you wish and hop on the train from Tango Kanzaki stn. back towards Osaka/Kobe area via JR Fukuchiyama or those with a strong heart can cycle back along Yura river to Fukuchiyama and take the Jr train from there too. Cost: Total transport cost is about JPY4000 Bring: snacks,lunch,bike necessities (*bike bag for trip back home) thin slick tires for mtb or road bike important.
