anarchist
movement.

The most outstanding event in Spanish anarchist history would certainly be the
Spanish Civil War of
1936-1939, and the
Spanish Revolution
of 1936.

The
Confederacion Nacional del Trabajo
(CNT) is an anarcho-syndicalist labor union in Spain, and while it
was banned during the dictatorship of Franco, re-emerged with great popularity
after Franco died.
The FAI (Federacion Anarquista Iberica) is an
anarchist federation in Spain that was created to help keep the CNT in line with
it's origional libertarian goals. The FAI is a part of the International of Anarchist
Federations (IFA). The CNT-FAI alliance during the Spanish Civil War
officialy used the red and black flag which represents
anarcho-syndicalism (as opposed to simply anarchism, represented
by a purely black flag.)
The International Workers
Association (Asociacin Internacional de los Trabajadores, or AIT) is
the international anarcho-syndicalist federation of which the CNT is a part.
An anarchosyndicalist union formed by
a split in the CNT in 1979 is the CGT
(Confederacin General del Trabajo).
An outstanding anarchist
miliataman who fought in the war was Buenaventura Durruti. This
page also contains articles about Libertarian Communism and the history of the
CNT-FAI in the Spanish Civil War. See the article "Getting to Know
Durruti".

El Acratador, Anarchist publication - "El" means
"The" and "acrata" is defined in the Real Academia Espaqola dictionary
as: partidario de la supresisn de toda autoridad. Roughly, one who
favors the elimination of all authority. Interestingly, a simmilar word,
"atracador" means "thief bank" (something of the opposite).

Controversies
Recently right-wing, pro-free market capitalists (who call
themselves "anarcho"-capitalists) have started to attack anarchism and in
particular the Spanish anarchists and their role in the Spanish Revolution/Civil
War. Here we present some replies to their attacks.
