1891 Illo Tempore Film Awards Winners

(1ts of March 2003) Dickson Greeting bags the Best Picture Award at the 1st Illo Tempore Film Awards - 1891, beating Duncan And Another, Blacksmith Shop and Duncan Or Devonald With Muslin Cloud, the two most nominated productions. The same picture brought William Heise the Best Cinematographer Award, which makes him the first to obtain all the possible awards for cinematography in the same year.

Heise also gained the Best Producer Award for Duncan Or Devonald With Muslin Cloud, becoming as a result the most awarded person in the 1891 competition, with four wins in his pocket.

But the score was not perfect for the best film, as Dickson lost the Best Actor Award to one of his employees, namely James C. Duncan (who managed to grab all the acting awards), whose performance in Duncan And Another, Blacksmith Shop had all the right attributes.

The Illo Tempore Tribute winner William K.L. Dickson was not left empty handed though. His contribution as a producer and cinematographer in Men Boxing brought him the Best Breakthrough Award, making him the first to gain all the all-round honours in the same year. Also, Dickson has become the most awarded individual in the history of the Illo Tempore Film Awards, with seven carrier victories.

The only disappointment was for Fred C. Devonald who lost in both categories, while Newark Athlete, after obtaining the International Award for the best production from United States of America, failed to achieve any of the competitive awards, even against productions from the same country.

The main victor was Edison Manufacturing Company though, which with two wins dominates the studio records, and particularly since the winners in all the other categories gained honours for films produced by the same enterprise.
