Islamic Girls & Women Group (IGWG) was formed to meet the challenges confronting Australian Muslim women growing up in a multicultural environment. Through activities – sporting, recreational, intellectual and cultural – some of which women often felt constrained in participating due to lack of ‘women only' programs, isolation, and rigidity of cultural views attributed to religion.
IGWG aims to educate and reinforce women in making them active participants in whichever sphere of life they may wish to engage themselves.
It is committed to improving and projecting the image of Australian Muslim women as progressive, well educated, assertive and embracing the ideals of multiculturalism in the context of Australian society - an embodiment of the best of the East and West.
