OUR PROJECTS

IGWG has vigorously pursued its vision by committing itself to raising the educational standards of students from non-English speaking backgrounds, particularly those of low socio-economic profile and children of refugees and newly arrived migrants. IGWG aims to do this by:

  • Providing a tutorial service
  • Providing role models and mentors
  • Improving the academic skills of students in all key learning areas especially the English Language, mathematics, science and information technology.

The group aims to build bridges of understanding and acceptance in the Australian community by way of

  • Presentation talks in community centres, churches, schools
  • Providing a corp of volunteers for national events and other community fund raising efforts

IGWG has formed a relationship with the Royal Children’s Hospital Auxiliary to co-ordinate and supply Muslim volunteers

The group is in the process of collating stories from migrants which will be used as a historical information database.
