Chairman and Chief of Cardiology at CARE Hospitals

Prof. B. Soma Raju is the Chairman and Chief of Cardiology at CARE Hospitals Hyderabad and also Prof of Cardiology at Deccan Medical College, Hyderabad. He has been providing dedicated service to the people for the last 20 years as Cardiologist, Researcher, Teacher and Philanthropist.

 

He obtained his DM from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh in Cardiology. He joined as an Asst. Prof. of Cardiology at Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad. He also worked as a Prof and Head of the Department of Cardiology at NIMS, Hyderabad. During this period, two randomized trails comparing Mitral Balloon Valvuloplasty with the standard surgical procedures were conducted in collaboration with Wayne State University of Detroit. First trail was published in the AHA journal-circulation. Second study was published in NEJM as a lead article - Percutaneous Balloon Valvuloplasty Compared with Open Surgical Commissurotomy for Mitral Stenosis. Prof. Soma Raju has published and presented over 120 papers in various national and international journal and forums. He has also authored a text book on Clinical Methods in Cardiology. He has to his credit,  Conducted the first PTCA  in India and heads a team which has the distinction of performing the largest number of cardiac interventions in the country. He has been involved in various research projects during the last 20 years individually, in collaboration with American Universities and the Defense Scientific Laboratories. The last association culminated in the development of India's first Coronary Stent, which has been named the Kalam Raju Stent after Prof. A.P.J. Kalam and Dr. Raju. He set up the department of Cardiology at the Satya Sai Instutute of Higher Medical Sciences at Puttaparthi, AndhraPradesh.
