Diary Week Six
Day 36
|
Saturday, 21st August, 2004As no-one in Esquel seemed to understand how to download the photos, I had to upload them to the internet there and then download them back here in Trelew. Unfortunately, because they were so big, the cheapy geocities site that Im using for this whole thing kept using up its bandwidth every time I downloaded more than six photos so I had to wait an hour for it to kick back in again. It took a long time to download all the photos, but I managed it eventually, and spent the afternoon sitting in the cyber cafe watching the football results come in. Unfortunately, Barry lost, so that wasnt so good, but I did get a whole stream of e-mails from people complaining that they couldnt access the site - so that was a nice egoboost! lol I finished putting all the Trevelin and Esquel stuff up in the early evening and then had a look to see what was on at the cinema. Disaster had struck. Shrek 2, which I had already seen twice, was on at the cinema as was Luna de Avanelladza which I had also seen. That meant that whatever the other Argentinian film they had was had been given the boot and I had picked the wrong one before leaving last week. There was nothing for it. I watched Shrek 2 again...in Spanish...again...but this time I actually understood it, like, almost all of the Spanish, which again was nice! I also did some thinking ahead and went out to the shops to buy a jumper to take down south with me. First port of call was the surfshop beneath where I live, but everything there was aimed at 15 year old surfers/skaters with embarassingly huge logos splashed on their chests. Not my scene at all. Luckily, I remembered that the sports store inside the Norte hypermarket was having a sale, so I went for a butchers round there while getting some more junk food. I hadnt found anything and was about to give up when the store assistant grabbed me, and I was too polite to just walk away, so together we hunted round the shop, yaying and naying at things, until we found a nice black fleece thing which I liked the look of. Went off and tried it on. Liked the fit. Nice and warm. Looked at the price tag. $80. Within my price range, but a bit pricey. Then I remembered the sale, and hoped it was in it. Handed it over at the cash desk, with my pristine $100 note, and then saw the register ring up $40. Half price. Nice one! Quiet night followed as I admired my new purchase in the mirror and carried on reading my Cortazar with the intention of finishing it on the plane tomorrow.
