| Day 81 - Fri Nov 22nd - Sydney - Warm/Sunny | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| (IJH) Out tonight for Anka's birthday so expect tales of drunkeness and falling over later in the weekend - day off today - not having much luck with the houses as most require longer lease times than when we are going to be here...mmmmmmm | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Days 81?? to ?? - Monday 2nd - Sunday 8th Dec - Sydney - Hot/Sunny | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| (IJH) Really can't remember what happened this week except we moved out of Wanderers on Kent on Monday and moved into our new house down in Enmore (near Newtown) in the southern suburbs of Sydney. We are now about a 20-25min-bus journey into the city. Nice area but right under the flight path for Sydney Airport, which is kinda strange, but you get used to it after a while. Have moved in with James and Becky who have been traveling around Australia for the last few months and Orla and Anna two Irish girls also backpackers. In fact it's a right backpackers community around here as there are about 50 terraced houses of which at least half are owned by one guys who has about 6 backpackers in each place. There are three bedrooms in each house so I am currently sharing with Sniper in our house. My guess is that the rest of the week was spent driving for the hostel and going out for drinks in town - I think Dave and I went over to Finchy's on Friday. But I'm not sure. ;-) |

| Days 81?? to ?? - Monday 9th - Sunday 15th Dec - Sydney - Wet/Rainey/Overcast | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| (IJH) Another busy week - still driving the minibus for work but have been offered office work starting next week which I think I will take as it is more regular hours and higher wage - basically not having to get up at 5am is a big incentive as well! Dave has got his new job with Bosch down in Melbourne so he will be going down there next week for a handover and then start full time around the 10th of Jan. Not sure what this does for traveling plans as it depends whether he is doing a 3-month contract or stays to do 6 months. Anyway we all went to see the new Harry Potter film which is not bad but I don't think it's as great as everyone raves on about - did take the chance this week to re-read the fourth Harry Potter in the van in-between pickups (yes I have that much free time I have read 2 books this week). Jess arrived back in Sydney from her jaunt down south to Melbourne and Canberra and I think she's staying around until into January. Had a BBQ at our on Thursday with Darren, Sarah, Finchy, Jess, and Sian as well as our fellow housemates James and Becky. Its great we get a massive BBQ included with the house that we rent - proper gas fired double grill thing! Finchy offered me a last minute ticket to the cricket on Friday - England vs. Australia (First one-day match) at the SCG that was an opportunity not to miss. Excellent day out although I missed the first hour as I was working (day/night match 1400-2200). Arrived as England reached 100 without loss and as promptly as I stepped into the ground they then lost 2 wickets. Nice. As I reached Darren and Finchy I was promptly dispatched to get beer on the basis that the queue was pretty short (a cruel lie) and that set the tone for the afternoon. Nothing finer than drinking beer in the sun watching 2 men hit a small hard ball as hard as possible while the other men try and throw it as hard as possible at their legs. Anyway we did pretty well getting 253 (?) off the 50 overs for 9 wickets. But Australia showed they were going to make quick work of it and it became apparent that they were going to reach the target pretty comfortably by their 50 overs. At that point the crowd switched the bulk of its attention to doing Mexican waves and seeing which stand could make the longest 'beer snake' (all the plastic beer cups stacked as long as possible)...ahh who says crickets a boring sport ?!? Great day out all in all. Bizarrely enough walked past a restaurant in Paddington on the way back where the Prime Minister John Howard was having dinner - so we peered through the glass at him about 10ft away and then left before his bodyguards noticed and thought we were Islamic terrorists! Saturday was spent sleeping and then out for a big night out in Scruffy Murphys down George St. Usual crowd was there (Dave, Jess, Sian, Finchy, Giselle, Steph, Kay) and I had to retire earlier than I would liked but later than I should have considering I was doing my last shift in the minibus the next day - arrived home at 1am and really struggled Sunday morning. God knows how I wasn't ill and my hangover kicking in about 9am didn't help either.... |
