Day 14 - September 15th - Journey to HatYai  - Warm/Sunny
(DL) Today was our break from Malaysia and the start of our travels in Thailand.
First we got the slow boat at 8am this morning back to the Malaysian coast, them we took a 1.5hr taxi ride to the Thai border (only 7 pounds!).  From there we walked through Malaysian exit customs and Thailand Immigration and then the short walk (albeit in the late morning burning sun!) to the Thai border railway station of **** Golock.  A four hour train journey from there took us to where we are now - Hat Yai in Southern Thailand.  I think 8hrs of travelling is enough for one day so we will staya night here.

It's a town of about 100,000 people and seems very nice so far.  We'll leave tomorrow to head further north to the port of Sumat Terani (?) from where we will catch a night ferry to Ko Tao - an isolated island off the Thai coast.  We will stay there a few days and partake in some diving before heading to Ko Pgang Ngan for the Full Moon Party on the 21st (next Saturday).  That is supposed to be an experience unlike any other - so it should be worth a look!
Day 15 - September 16th - HatYai to Surat Thani - Warm/Sunny

Day 16 - September 17th - Koh Tao - Warm/Sunny/Overcast

Day 18 - September 19th - Koh Tao - Warm/Sunny
(IJH)  Our first proper day of our Diving course - started with a classroom session in the morning and a afternoon session in the pool - as the group was split into two there should have been 3 others in the pool in the afternoon  but for one reason and another there ended up being just Dave and I so we got plenty of practice - this included some basic skills like regulator recovery and emergency accents - also sharing air supplies and taking your mask of underwater (quite off putting). Proper sea diving starts tomorrow...
