Travel Diary - Malaysia - II
Day 6 - September 7th - KL- Sunny/Humid
So ....today has been eventful - went to the Petronas Towers with a couple of guys we met from the hostel (both Brits) early and secured ourselves passes for the observation bridge - got up there at 11 - very good view and it was only a shame that Catherine Zita Jones wasn't up there with Sean Connery...(Entrapment).

A quick retire to the YH to get out of the worst heat and then out towards the National Monument and Lake Gradens (can you believe they are playing Kyle and Jason in the background in the internet cafe I'm in???). On the way we stopped to watch the Rugby 7's that were going on....you know everyone has their 15min of fame - well me and Sniper just got ours.
We were interviewed by a Malaysian Music TV station about our views on the supernatural and the afterlife and then allowed to do a dedication !! (we have photographic evidence)
So if you just tune in your satelite dish to Malaysian TV you'll see our ugly mugs !!
(it's only a small step to hosting a game show...)

We are currently preparing to watch the England game tonight after a tour this afternoon around the Lake Gardens and Large aivery (I know I can't spell) where Dave almost got attacked by a monkey..(I thought they liked their own species........)

Day 7 - September 8th - KL-Cherating - Sunny/Humid
(IJH) An early start to catch the bus to Kuantan and then a taxi ride to Cherating - a very small town (2 streets) on the East Coast -stopping here a couple of days to chill out and relax after the hustle and bustle of KL. The buses here are modern airconditioned affairs but the driving leaves a little to be desired - overtaking five cars at once or round blind bends leaves you wishing that you don't have a seat near the front...
Days 8/9 - September 9/10th - Cherating - Sunny/Humid/Thunderstorms
(IJH) Two very chilled out days in Cherating - This is basically a one road 'town' with quite a nice beach. There were impressive thunderstorms both days which we watched from the safety of our Chalet. We also braved the local rivercruise which was in a boat that could only take about 5 people. This toured up the local river into the forrest - very impressive flora - also managed to see a 4ft long lizard and some poisonous snakes to boot dangling from the overhead trees.
Day 10 - September 11th - Kuala Terrangganu - Overcast
(IJH) We left Cherating this morning and made our way via a 4 hr bus ride north to Kuala Terranganu and this is a stop point in preparation for going to Kuala Besut tomorrow and a boat ride to the Perhentian Islands which are supposed to be beautiful and good for snorkelling etc.
Day 11/12/13 - September 12/13/14th - Perhentian Islands - Sunny & hot
(DL) Well about time I guess that I wrote a note on the web site.  I've been keeping a written journal myself so I have mainly left it up to IJH to update the web - a job that he has been doing superbly!

So we have spent the last three days on the Malaysian Perinthian Island of Besar.  We have been relaxing, kayaking amongst the coral (really hard work!) and generally lazing about and enjoying the fantastic sandy beaches and gorgeous weather.  The island is really laid back and still
has pleanty of options - three or four restaurants to choose from on our beach front alone.  To get over to the islands you have to take a 1.5hr 'slow' ferry from Malaysia - which is really relaxing and an experience in itself.  After spending three laid back days there we were ready
to move on - and so we will tomorrow.

Now to Thailand !

Day 42 - October 14th - Penang - Sunny/Hot
(IJH) Arrived in Penang an island off the west coast of North West Malaysia about four in the afternoon - after sweating profusely while carrying our backpacks through Little India and Chinatown  - we settled at the Hang Chow Hotel which was recommended by some guys we me in Krabi. Excellent room (double bed each) and superb pizza and milkshakes downstairs...we may be here sometime...........
