Travel Diary - Australia II

Day 68 - Saturday Nov 9th - Kosciuscko - Hot/Sunny
(IJH) Today was an early start - and was the day we climbed Mt. Kosciuscko in the Kosciuscko National Park just up the road from Jintabine. This is a ski resort in the winter here and Finch was promising us snow at the top - not that anyone believed him of course as everyone knows that there isn't snow in Australia - in fact it's always hot and sunny isn't it??   A reasonably uneventful chair lift ride to 1800m took us to the path to the top. Unbelievebly enough there is snow in Australia and there was a fair covering of the stuff towards the top - we of course reverted to five year olds and started a snowball fight which isn't something most people say they've done in Australia !!  The view from the top was pretty special as well (2000m) - check out the photos...
We returned home pretty tired - and spent the evening drink copious amounts of vino collapso and arguing over the validity of various scrabble words...
The other thing to note was that when we returned to the cabin that evening Sarah pointed out a spider on the side panel.. the conversation went something along the lines of.......
(Sarah) Whats that spider ? (small 50p sized spider)
(Dave) Which one ?
(Finch) Looks like a huntsman...
(Me) IS it dangerous  ?
(Finch) Well they bite but they are not lethal....and they jump
Looks like a baby, its mother can't be far.....
(Me) How big is it's mother?
(Finch) Oh about this big (holds up entire hand)
(Me/Dave/Sarah) Errrr I think we should go inside now (followed by massive scrum for the door)
Day 69 - Sunday Nov 10th - Jintabine - Hot/Sunny
(IJH) Mainly because the Nazi  caravan park owner had some stupidly early check -out time we ended up spending most of today by a river just down from Jintabine before making the trek back to Sydney. Popped into Canberra on the way back - looks very green and open! Saw the parliment house as well which Dave managed to walk into with his pocket knife despite security check ! You wonder how seriously you can take a country that has two pollitians on the front bench  called Albert and Costello - I kid you not....

cheers Simon for drving us there and back !  A very good weekend.....
Day 70 - Monday Nov 11th - Sydney - Hot/Sunny
(IJH) Job hunting again - also trying to catch up on my email and web stuff that has been neglected over the last week - today is tramping around the agency's trying to tout myself ..nice ...have now managed to open a bank account so at least when I get paid there will be something for it to go into !!  Have discovered my wpm is 41 - but I  don't know if this is any good or not ?!?
We both wandered upto King  X for dinner with Sian and a couple of her roommates where we managed to find a bargain pasta place - food/drink/garlic bread for $10 - gonna have to start cooking for myself again soon though.....
Day 71 - Tuesday Nov 12th - Sydney - Warm/Overcast
(IJH) I spent the morning  (while Dave was visiting agencies) doing a morningshift of trying to badger people over the phone to go to a timeshare presentation in return for free accomodation - welcome to the world of telesales Iain....
This job will send me mad - only managed to convince 1 person in 4 hours - but it throws up some interesting places to call I phoned a hospital line to get the answer "Sexual Assalt Crisis Helpline - How can I help?" - at this point I bottled it (there's a limit who I'll try and sell to) and told them I'd got the wrong number. Unfortuantly the number for the 'Russian Advisory Service' was unanswered.......
Day 72 - Wednesday Nov 13th - Sydney - Overcast/Warm
(IJH) More job hunting - telesales in the afternoon....more joy I really don't like this job - managed to sell to a guy called Ousama ... I shit you not......
A nice chineese meal taken out to Darling Harbour this evening with the company of Sian, Jess, Dave, and Anka - at a bargain $7....really going to have to spent more time down here as its just around the corner from our hostel.
Day 73 - Thursday Nov 14th - Sydney - Overcast/Warm
(IJH) Started some new work driving a minibus to pick unsuspecting travellers up from the Central bus station to take them to the hostel - not bad stuff but some of the other hostel touts down there are aggressively marketing their beds and are generally unpleasant people - however hello to Ray from the Wake-up hostel who is one of the nice ones......
We (company of Sian, Jess, Dave, Helen, and Anka) went out for dinner this evening at a place called Mama's just down the road which is foolish enough to do a bowl of pasta for just 4 bucks (and leave as much Parmasan as you can eat ...)  and cheap vino collapso......followed by another bottle back at the hostel - just  as well I didn't have to get up at six am otherwise I would have been in right trouble ........DOH !!!
