Contraction
Contraction; one possible way for the NHL to recover from heavy financial losses by eliminating some of the NHL's most futile franchises. Below are the proposed teams up for contraction (deletion) from the National Hockey League:
Divisions
Season
        Columbus Blue Jackets

There has been no success for this team. It's hard to run a team in a smaller city, Columbus, with less fans, than a bigger metropolis, like New York. There is no history, although they have a new building and worthy owners.

        Carolina Hurricanes

Why did the NHL ever move away from Connecticut and into tobacco country? The Hurricanes only had one good year, 2002, in which they made the Stanley Cup Finals. However, attendance ails season after season and the Hurricanes finished well out of the playoffs in 2004.
Relocate: Take the NHL back to where it belongs, Hartford, and bring back the Whalers.

        Florida Panthers

The Panthers made the Stanley Cup Finals just 3 years after entering the league. However, the Panthers haven't made an impact and attendance is low. The NHL should not have brought another team to Florida. A small market team in Sunrise, Florida will not do well.
